Vascular hyperplasia is a common finding in prurigo nodularis/lichen simplex chronicus (LSC). The term prurigiform angiomatosis was recently proposed to describe a histologic pattern characterized by prominent vascular hyperplasia in patients with LSC. The aim of this study was to identify cases of LSC with this pattern and analyze associations with clinical and pathologic features and disease course. We reviewed 54 cases of histologically confirmed LSC and detected findings consistent with prurigiform angiomatosis in 10 (18...

Cryptogenic organising pneumonia (COP) is a form of idiopathic diffuse interstitial lung disease (ILD) that develops in response to a variety of unknown irritants. An essential component of the development of organising pneumonia (OP) is damage to type II pneumocytes and the alveolar basement membrane. An autoimmune illness called systemic sclerosis (SSc) has a significant death rate from cardiopulmonary involvement such as pulmonary hypertension and ILD. Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder, in which the patients experience extra-articular symptoms such as ILD during the course of their disease, and COP frequently coexists with these conditions...

AIMS: Verruciform acanthotic vulvar intra-epithelial neoplasia (vaVIN) is an HPV-independent, p53 wild-type lesion with distinct morphology and documented risk of recurrence and cancer progression. vaVIN is rare, and prospective distinction from non-neoplastic hyperplastic lesions can be difficult. CK17, SOX2 and GATA3 immunohistochemistry has emerging value in the diagnosis of HPV-independent lesions, particularly differentiated VIN. We aimed to test the combined value of these markers in the diagnosis of vaVIN versus its non-neoplastic differentials in the vulva...

Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), the precursor lesion of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC), may present as pruritic or asymptomatic lichenified plaques surrounded by single or multiple discrete or confluent macules or papules. VIN is divided into high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), which is human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven, and differentiated VIN (DVIN), which develops independently of HPV. Histopathological examination and HPV genotyping polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests should be performed to distinguish between HSIL and DVIN...

A case of 67-year-old male patient with superficial papular neuroma (SPN) on the occiput is reported. This is the second report of SPN and the first with clinical images. Histologically, in the superficial dermis and periadnexa, the specimen exhibits a nodule of bland spindle cells with an S-shaped and spindle nucleus, surrounded by eosinophilic collagen fibers and scattered mast cells, which forms focally peripheral nerve-like structures. Lichen simplex chronicus-like changes are observed. Immunostaining result revealed that the tumor cells are positive for S-100, neurofilament, collagen IV, and CD34 but negative for Melan A, epithelial membrane antigen, and glial fibrillary acidic protein...

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been cited as being helpful in the diagnosis of diseases, the prediction of prognoses, and the development of patient-specific therapeutic strategies. AI can help dentists, in particular, when they need to make important judgments quickly. It can eliminate human mistakes in making decisions, resulting in superior and consistent medical treatment while lowering the workload on dentists. The existing studies relevant to the study and application of AI in the diagnosis of various forms of mouth ulcers are reviewed in this work...

A systematic review was performed of cohort and case-control studies comparing healthy controls with patients with chronic pruritus related to primary dermatoses, systemic diseases, psychogenic pruritus, idiopathic pruritus, prurigo nodularis and/or lichen simplex chronicus. The review was registered in PROSPERO and performed according to the PRISMA statement, which allowed the inclusion of 26 studies...

Chronic eyelid and ocular itch affect many patients seeking dermatologic or ophthalmologic care and have a high burden on patient quality of life. Clinicians should consider the broad range of possible diagnoses when approaching the patient with itch of the eyes or eyelids lasting more than 6 weeks. Allergic conjunctivitis and allergic contact dermatitis are the most common causes of chronic itch of the eyes and eyelids, respectively. Other diagnoses to consider include atopic dermatitis, xerosis, neurogenic itch, dry eye syndrome, seborrheic dermatitis, blepharitis, rosacea, lichen simplex chronicus, and papulosquamous disorders...

Pruritus is the main symptom of many dermatologic and systemic diseases. Atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, urticaria, lichen simplex chronicus, mycosis fungoides, scars, autoimmune diseases, kidney or liver diseases among others are all associated with itch that may require different approaches to management. Although antihistamines seem to be the first line of therapy, in reality their role is limited to urticaria and drug-induced reactions. In fact, the pathophysiologic mechanisms of each of the conditions covered in this review will differ...

Many conditions that affect the skin and esophagus can be treated successfully with systemic steroids and immunosuppressants including pemphigus, pemphigoid, HIV, esophageal lichen planus, and Crohn's disease...

Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a common, hyperkeratotic skin condition characterized by small, folliculocentric papules with variable perifollicular erythema. We provide an updated review on the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and management of this common, and often annoying, finding. KP represents a family of follicular disorders, of which KP simplex is by far the most common. Other variants and rare subtypes include keratosis pilaris rubra, erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli, and the spectrum of keratosis pilaris atrophicans...
