BACKGROUND: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is a prevalent cardiovascular disease globally, posing a significant burden on healthcare and society. Left ventricular remodelling is the primary pathology responsible for HFrEF development and progression, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Pueraria, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine and food, is commonly used in China to treat HFrEF. Accumulating evidence suggests that pueraria can effectively reverse left ventricular remodelling in HFrEF patients...

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of chronic heart failure (CHF) checklist management in reducing adverse outcomes of heart failure patients is still uncertain. This study explores whether CHF checklist management is more useful than usual care in reducing adverse health outcomes in the medium- and long-term among CHF patients. METHODS: In our prospective study, 132 patients with CHF were randomly assigned to CHF management group and usual care group by random number method...

This study aimed to investigate the value of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) and 4D myocardial strain parameters in evaluating left heart function of pregnant women with hypertension and the association between these parameters and relevant factors. Forty-five pregnant women with hypertensive disorder, including 20 with hypertension, 15 with mild preeclampsia, and 10 with severe preeclampsia, were recruited, and their cardiac functions were compared with those of 30 healthy pregnant women as controls. High Left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV), Left atrial volume index (LAVI), E/e were observed in hypertensive disorder, while Mitral peak diastolic velocity(E), Early diastolic peak velocity(e), E/A, Left ventricularglobal longitudinal strain (LVGLS), Left ventricularglobal area strain (LVGAS), and Left atrialglobal longitudinal strain (LAGLS) were decreased; for pre-eclampsia, Left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVESD), Left atrial anteroposterior diameter (LAD-ap), LVESV, LAVI were significantly increased, LVGLS, LAGLS were significantly decreased, Left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), Left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), A peak, E/e were increased, while E peak, E/A, e, Left ventricle global radial strain (LVGRS), Left ventricle global circumferential strain (LVGCS), LVGAS were decreased but not significantly; for severe preeclampsia, Left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), LVESD, LAD-ap, Left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), LVESV, LAVI, A, and E/e were significantly increased, while LVGLS, LVGRS, LVGCS, LVGAS, LAGLS, E peak, E/A, and e were significantly reduced...

AIMS: To evaluate the effect of exercise rehabilitation on the left ventricular (LV) function in patients with heart failure (HF). METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase were searched until May 2023). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) providing data on changes in LV function, comparing exercise to no-exercise controls with HF of any type, were included. RESULTS: A total of 16 studies including 1443 participants were included. LV end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) was significantly improved in the exercise group [mean differences (MD), -2...

Patients with persistent heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) have a poorer prognosis than those with HF with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF). However, data on the predictive value of echocardiographic parameters for persistent HFrEF are lacking. We retrospectively studied 443 patients who were diagnosed with HFrEF (EF ≤ 40%) during hospitalization and underwent echocardiography at the 1-year follow-up. We divided them into the 2 groups: HFimpEF (EF > 40%) and persistent HFrEF group at 1-year follow-up, and assessed the predictive value of echocardiographic parameters at discharge for persistent HFrEF...

A total of 30 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into a blank control group (Control group, n=10), DM model group (DM group, n=10) and FAS treatment group (FAS group, n=10), and their blood and myocardial tissues were collected. Then blood glucose (GLU) content, hepatic and myocardial function indexes, ejection fraction (EF) and other cardiac function parameters were detected, and ELISA was employed to determine the content of serum IL-6, IL-1 and TNF-α...

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVESD) and ejection fraction (LVEF) are the parameters to look for when discussing repair in asymptomatic patients with a primary mitral regurgitation (PMR). Loading conditions are altering LV-function quantification. LV-myocardial work (LVMW) is a method based on pressure-strain loops. HYPOTHESIS: We sought to evaluate the additive value of the LVMW for predicting clinical events in patients with PMR. METHODS: 103 patients (66% men, median age 57 years) with asymptomatic severe PMR were explored at rest and during an exercise stress echocardiography...

BACKGROUND: Pharmacological post-MI treatment is routinely initiated at intensive/cardiac care units. However, solid evidence for an early start of these therapies is only available for dual platelet therapy and statins, whereas data on beta blockers and RAAS inhibitors are heterogenous and mainly limited to STEMI and heart failure patients. Recently, the EMMY trial provided the first evidence on the beneficial effects of SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) when initiated early after PCI. In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, SGLT2i are considered "sick days drugs" and it, therefore, remains unclear if very early SGLT2i initiation following MI is as safe and effective as delayed initiation...
