Results of examination and surgical treatment for glial tumors of fronto-temporal localization in 40 patients of both gender and different age, duration of treatment, somatic state were analyzed. Complex clinico-neurological examination of patients have included neurovisualized methods of investigation: angiography of carotid arteries, computeric and a magnet resonance tomography. Algorithm of preoperative diagnosis was elaborated for the surgical tactics establishment.

OBJECTIVE: To screen the proteins associated with four-and-a-half LIM domains 3 (FHL3) 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) in glioma cells. METHODS: Western blot was adopted to detect the regulatory effect of poly(C)-binding protein 2 (PCBP2) on FHL3. Biotin pull-down and sliver staining were employed to screen and verify the candidate binding proteins of FHL3 3'UTR. Then liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and molecule annotation system were used to identify and analyze the candidate binding proteins...

OBJECT: The spontaneous prognostic factors and optimal therapeutic strategy for WHO Grade II gliomas (GIIGs) have yet to be unanimously defined. Specifically, the role of resection is still debated, most notably because the actual amount of resection has seldom been assessed. METHODS: Cases of GIIGs treated before December 2007 were extracted from a multicenter database retrospectively collected since January 1985 and prospectively collected since 1996. Inclusion criteria were a patient age ≥ 18 years at diagnosis, histological diagnosis of WHO GIIG, and MRI evaluation of tumor volume at diagnosis and after initial surgery...

OBJECTIVE: To determine the expression of SV40Tag, Rb and IRS-1 in gliomas and to identify their function in gliomagenesis and progression. METHODS: Tissue microarrays were constructed containing 118 samples including human glioma and meningioma, experimental glioma, and normal human brain tissue. The expression of SV40Tag, Rb, IRS-1, SV40Tag combined with Rb, and SV40Tag combined with IRS-1 were assayed by immunofluorescence or immunohistochemical techniques. The expression ratio and level were analyzed...

22 patients with recurrent malignant gliome were treated with "8 drugs in 1 day" chemotherapy protocol. 3 patients achieved partial response, 7 achieved stable disease, while 12 had progressive disease. Median time to tumor progression for all patients was 13 weeks, while median survival time for all patients was 35 weeks. Hematological toxicities were the most common, resulting in treatment refusal in two patients. Other toxicities included gastrointestinal, nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.

The authors proposed a possible preoperative diagnostics of the degree of supratentorial brain gliom anaplasia using statistical analysis methods. It relies on a complex examination of 934 patients with I-IV degree anaplasias, which had been treated in the Institute of Neurosurgery from 1990 to 2004. The use of statistical analysis methods for differential diagnostics of the degree of brain gliom anaplasia may optimize a diagnostic algorithm, increase reliability of obtained data and in some cases avoid carrying out irrational operative intrusions...

The ultrastructural study of a case of snail track degeneration shows the presence of lipid inclusions in both the glial and the macrophage cells in every layer of the retina, and the existence of intraretinal fibers different from collagen fibers appearing to be glial filaments similar to those found in astrocytic gliomes and to the Rosenthal fibers observed in senile nervous cells. Other features were thinning of the retina and absence of blood vessels in the retina. There are no abnormalities of the vitreo-retinal juncture...

A bromodeoxyuridine resistant mutant of rat gliom line C6 grown in the presence of N6,02'-dibutyryl adenosine-3':5'-cyclic monophosphate, although inexcitable by electrical current, responds to iontophoretic application of acetylcholine by slow hyperpolarization. The sensitivity to acetylcholine is strongly reduced by excessive amounts of acetylcholine. The hyperpolarization response is inhibited by atropine or alpha-bungarotoxin, but not by D-tubocurarine. In the absence of acetylcholine some cells display spontaneous hyperpolarizations at regular intervals...
