A series of 16 new diselenide-acylselenourea conjugates have been designed following the fragment-based drug strategy. Compound in vitro cytotoxic potential was evaluated against six human cancer cell lines and two nonmalignant derived cell lines with the aim of determining their potency and selectivity. Nine derivatives exhibited GI50 values under 10 μM in at least four cancer cell lines. A clear gap situated phenyl substitution over heterocyclic moieties in terms of selectivity. Among carbocyclic compounds, derivatives 2 and 7 significantly inhibited cell growth of breast adenocarcinoma cells with GI50 values of 1...

The distinction in recent years between positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA) is becoming increasingly important due to their relationship with depression and anxiety. Whole-genome duplications (WGDs) have played a central role in the evolution of genomes and constitute an important source of genome instability in cancer. Here, we show in Saccharomyces cerevisiae that abnormal accumulations of histones are sufficient to induce WGDs. Our results link these WGDs to a reduced incorporation of the histone variant H2A.Z to chromatin. Moreover, we show that high levels of histones promote Swe1WEE1 stabilisation thereby triggering the phosphorylation and inhibition of Cdc28CDK1 through a mechanism different of the canonical DNA damage response...

BACKGROUND: Acetaminophen poisoning continues to be a major cause of liver failure that can lead to liver transplantation. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is the cornerstone of treatment. Some authors use a Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS) system in acetaminophen poisoning. It is reported that the MARS system eliminates acetaminophen more efficiently than conventional dialysis. The acquisition of cellular identity is coupled to changes in the nuclear periphery and nuclear pore complexes (NPCs). Whether and how these changes determine cell fate remain unclear. We have uncovered a mechanism that regulates NPC acetylation to direct cell fate after asymmetric division in budding yeast. The lysine deacetylase Hos3 associates specifically with daughter cell NPCs during mitosis to delay cell cycle entry (Start). Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a disorder characterized by accumulation of Langerhans-like cells in one or various organs. A correct staging work-up is essential since there are multiorgan presentations with a poor prognosis. We report three patients with LCH skin lesions mimicking molluscum contagiosum in association with both high and low risk organ involvement. This peculiar cutaneous presentation can be a clue for the diagnosis of LCH, a disease with potentially severe systemic involvement.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Although clinical guidelines recommend invasive management in non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), this strategy is underused in frail elderly patients in the real world. Furthermore, these patients are underrepresented in clinical trials and therefore the evidence is scarce. Our hypothesis is that an invasive strategy will improve prognosis in elderly frail patients with NSTEMI. Searches are performed for both promptlike and long-lived dark photons, A^{'}, produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using A^{'}→μ^{+}μ^{-} decays and a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6  fb^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector. The promptlike A^{'} search covers the mass range from near the dimuon threshold up to 70 GeV, while the long-lived A^{'} search is restricted to the low-mass region 214<m(A^{'})<350  MeV. No evidence for a signal is found, and 90% confidence level exclusion limits are placed on the γ-A^{'} kinetic-mixing strength...

We have proposed that a common biological mechanism deregulated in opposite directions might explain the inverse epidemiological association observed between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cancer. Accordingly, we showed that lymphocytes from AD patients have an increased susceptibility, whereas those from survivors of a skin cancer, an increased resistance to oxidative death induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), compared to healthy controls (HC). The reproductive strategy of the pinewood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus , is sexual amphimictic and oviparous. The incidence of intrauterine egg development and hatching in plant-parasitic nematodes is not a very common phenomenon. During the process of maintaining and breeding a B. xylophilus population isolated in Spain under laboratory conditions, evidence of matricidal hatching was observed. This is the first described case of this phenomenon in this species.
