Care for a child's teeth and gums can start even before the baby is born. Pregnancy causes many hormonal changes, among these the rise of estrogen and progesterone increases the risk of developing oral health problems, like gingivitis and periodontitis. The presence of maternal periodontal diseases and active infections has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as preterm birth, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and foetal loss. Therefore, it is important to educate pregnant women about their oral hygiene and the importance of taking care of their newborn's oral health...

Background. A history of gestational diabetes is an important predictor of many metabolic disturbances later in life. Method. Life after gestational diabetes Ahvaz Study (LAGAs) is an ongoing population-based cohort study. Up to February 2016, 176 women with gestational diabetes underwent a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 6-12 weeks postpartum in Ahvaz (southwestern of Iran). Gestational diabetes was diagnosed according to the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) criteria and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria applied for diagnosis of postpartum prediabetes and diabetes...

INTRODUCTION: Anaemia has a high prevalence having great impact worldwide and potentially contributing to the pathogenesis of various chronic diseases. Approximately 1/3(rd) of patients with anaemia have iron deficiency. American Diabetes Association (ADA) has affirmed Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1C) ≥ 6.5% as a diagnostic criterion for Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Variation of HbA1C in Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) has clashing results. AIM: To decide the impact of IDA on HbA1C levels among non diabetics...

In an effort to facilitate the widest possible application of recent findings in diabetology and the related medical fields, with regard to characteristics of medicines and current possibilities of using modern procedures, but also to their limitations due to the financial capacities of health insurance companies, SDS innovates its therapeutic recommendations for the treatment of diabetes mellitus on a regular basis. The most recent recommendations were issued by SDS in August 2016. The review discusses and describes several factors which the authors considered during their preparation: (1) Compliance with the findings of evidence-based medicine, compliance with reference recommendations (therapeutic recommendations ADA/EASD), compliance with summary characteristics of active substances in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and approved possibilities of their use, and compliance with indica-tive restrictions (IO) which define medical and economic conditions for health insurance covered treatment...

REVIEW
Matthew F Bouchonville, Sara Matani, Jason J DuBroff, Robert J DuBroff
The global epidemic of obesity and diabetes underscores the urgency to develop strategies to prevent cardiovascular (CV) disease in this vulnerable population. Clinical guidelines are intended to help the clinician manage these patients, but guidelines are often discordant among professional organizations and not always evidence based. Clinicians must rely upon the best available evidence, and therefore we critically reviewed the evidence behind the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2016 guidelines on the prevention of CV disease in diabetes...

Context: Total pancreatectomy with islet auto transplantation (TPIAT) is a treatment for medically refractory chronic pancreatitis that can prevent postsurgical diabetes in some patients. Predictors of insulin independence are needed for appropriate patient selection and counseling. Objective: To explore glycemic predictors of insulin independence after TPIAT. Design: A prospective cohort of patients. Methods: We investigated 34 patients undergoing TPIAT from 2011-2016 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, all had a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) administered prior to their TPIAT...

BACKGROUND: Central hemodynamic indices have been demonstrated to correlate with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, in the context of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), this correlation has not been fully illustrated. Therefore, this study was employed to investigate the impact of DM on the correlation between aortic augmentation index and the severity of coronary artery disease. METHODS: In this study, we analyzed 197 patients who underwent coronary angiography at Anzhen Hospital from September 2015 to January 2016...
