Leprosy is a chronic multisystem disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae with frequent ocular manifestations such as madarosis, lagophthalmos, lid abnormalities, impaired corneal sensations, chronic uveitis, and cataract. Granulomas are characteristic lesion of lepromatous leprosy commonly seen as conjunctival and iris granulomas. We report a case of leprosy with a rare ocular manifestation in the form of angle mass lesion or suspected granuloma which has not been reported before and its successful management following treatment with favorable outcome...

Histoid leprosy is a rare variant of leprosy with a unique clinical presentation and bacilli rich histology. These patients are large reservoirs for disease and vectors for spread, making prompt diagnosis and treatment crucial. To date, no consensus on treatment and duration exists. This paper aims to investigate the efficacy, safety, and duration of varying treatment regimens in patients with histoid leprosy. A systematic PubMed review of all articles published before January 2020 containing the key words histoid leprosy...

Hansen's disease is a chronic infectious granulomatous disease with varied clinical presentation. In the postelimination era, histoid Hansen's disease is an important emerging lepromatous subset known to mimic varied dermatoses, thereby making clinical diagnosis difficult and often delayed. We report two cases of histoid Hansen's disease bereft of clinical cardinal signs of leprosy.

BACKGROUND: Histoid leprosy (HL) is a highly bacilliferous form of leprosy which requires early diagnosis and management. Dermoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic method for various malignant and nonmalignant disorders. The aim of this study was to describe the dermoscopic patterns of various types of HL lesions over different body parts. METHODS: This was a hospital-based observational study which evaluated the clinical and dermoscopic features of a series of patients with the diagnosis of HL...

Histoid leprosy (HL) was originally described by Wade in 1963 and is regarded as a rare variant of lepromatous leprosy (LL). These characteristic clinical lesions are firm, deeply adhered nodules with features reminiscent of dermatofibromas or keloids in a background of apparently healthy skin. The main histopathological findings described are the presence of spindle cell histiocytes immersed in a richly collagenized background, usually forming a nodular pattern of infiltration with sharply delimitation and positive staining for acid-fast bacilli...

Hansen's disease is a chronic infectious granulomatous disease with varied clinical presentation. Histoid Hansen's disease is an important emerging lepromatous subset of Hansen's disease known to mimic varied dermatoses. Occurrence of reactions, especially erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), is rare in this form of leprosy. We report a case of Histoid Hansen's disease with initial presentation of ENL while undergoing management for infertility.

BACKGROUND: Leprosy, a chronic granulomatous infection has varied clinical presentations spanning across different spectrums. The scope of dermatoscopy is vast and has been studied for other granulomatous disorders like sarcoidosis. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to describe the dermatoscopic features of the entire spectrum of leprosy and to correlate with clinical and histopathological findings. METHODS: This was a prospective observational study of treatment naïve leprosy patients over a period of 1 year...

Histoid leprosy is an uncommon form of lepromatous leprosy with distinct clinical, histopathological, immunological, and bacteriological features. This variant usually occurs in multibacillary patients who have irregular or inadequate treatment. Herein, we report a case of de novo histoid leprosy diagnosed in a patient from Cali, Colombia. In endemic areas, histoid leprosy should be in the differential diagnosis of any patient presenting with skin nodules. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are recommended for mitigating the impact of histoid leprosy cases, which are important reservoirs of Mycobacterium leprae...

BACKGROUND: Histoid leprosy is a subtype of leprosy with distinct clinical presentation and histologic features. It accounts for less than 4 per cent of leprosy cases. The exact location of histoid leprosy along the immune spectrum and its relation to other subtypes is unclear. AIM: To evaluate the local immune phenomenon which define histoid leprosy. DESIGN: Parallel skin biopsies from histoid lesions and from unremarkable skin in patients with histoid leprosy were evaluated and the histologic findings compared...

Background: Hansen's disease is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae . It is characterized by a wide range of clinical and histological manifestations. Ridley-Jopling criteria are widely used for classifying leprosy. The demonstration of acid-fast bacilli on slit-skin smear examination and in skin biopsy aids in its diagnosis. Aim: The aim of the present study was to perform clinico-histological correlation of skin lesions in all patients with a clinical suspicion of Hansen's disease...

BACKGROUND: Histoid leprosy (HL) is a rare form of lepromatous leprosy, characterized by hyperchromic indurated nodules above normal skin. Its main histopathological aspect is spindle cells. Because it may simulate other aspects, such as dermatofibroma and neurofibroma, histoid leprosy poses itself as a diagnostic challenge. METHODS: This is a retrospective study with all patients having been selected from the leprosy clinic of the Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo from 2006 to 2016...

Wade's histoid leprosy (HL) is a rare variant of multibacillary leprosy, with characteristic clinical, immunologic, histopathologic, and bacteriologic features. It is associated with resistance to sulfa drugs or polychemotherapy and is rarely observed in patients who have not undergone prior treatment. Clinically, HL resembles keloid or dermatofibroma. Furthermore, HL is rare in children and is difficult to diagnose even by experts. This report describes a case of HL in a 14-year-old Brazilian boy, who presented with multiple nodular and tumor-like lesions, simulating keloids...

BACKGROUND: Histoid leprosy is a rare variant of lepromatous leprosy characterized by varied morphological and histopathological appearance while having a high bacillary load.
