Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has emerged as a promising imaging modality for the characterization of hepatic and renal lesions. However, there is a paucity of data describing the use of CEUS for the evaluation of intra-scrotal pathology. In the following review, we describe the clinical utility of CEUS for the characterization and differentiation of common and uncommon intra-scrotal conditions, including testicular torsion, infection, trauma, and benign and malignant intratesticular and extratesticular neoplasms...

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumors of the liver (SFTL) are rare neoplasms, whose identification and definition of malignant potential are challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old patient underwent conventional imaging and CEUS to characterize an indeterminate liver lesion after other imaging techniques were inconclusive. In fact, all diagnostic techniques concluded that it was a partially fibrotic lesion, while CEUS determined its extra-hepatocellular origin and malignant potential, initially hypothesized to be a cholangiocarcinoma...

AIM: This study assessed the utility of multimodal ultrasound in enhancing the accuracy of breast cancer sentinel lymph node (SLN) assessment and compared it with single-modality ultrasound. METHODS: Preoperative examinations, including two-dimensional ultrasound (2D US), intradermal contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), intravenous CEUS, shear-wave elastography (SWE), and surface localization, were conducted on 86 SLNs from breast cancer patients. The diagnostic performance of single and multimodal approaches for detecting metastatic SLNs was compared to postoperative pathological results...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic yield of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS)-guided biopsy of retroperitoneal masses (RMs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2006 and 2023, 87 patients presented at our US center for biopsy of an RM. In all biopsies, CEUS was performed prior to the intervention. The technical success rate of biopsy, the presence of diagnostic tissue in solid tumor biopsy samples, the accuracy of the biopsy and the occurrence of post-interventional complications were evaluated...

The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the characteristics of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) images and quantitative parameters of time-intensity curves (TICs) in children's peripheral neuroblastic tumors (pNTs). By comparing the imaging features and quantitative parameters of the TICs of neuroblastoma (NB) and ganglioneuroblastoma (GNB) patients, we attempted to identify the distinguishing points between NB and GNB. A total of 35 patients confirmed to have pNTs by pathologic examination were included in this study...

Normal aging is associated with significant deleterious cerebrovascular changes; these have been implicated in disease pathogenesis and increased susceptibility to ischemic injury. While these changes are well documented in the brain, few studies have been conducted in the spinal cord. Here, we utilize specialized contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging to investigate age-related changes in cervical spinal vascular anatomy and hemodynamics in male Fisher 344 rats, a common strain in aging research. Aged rats (24-26 mo...

Nanomedicine in oncology has not had the success in clinical impact that was anticipated in the early stages of the field's development. Ideally, nanomedicines selectively accumulate in tumor tissue and reduce systemic side effects compared to traditional chemotherapeutics. However, this has been more successful in preclinical animal models than in humans. The causes of this failure to translate may be related to the intra- and inter-patient heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment. Predicting whether a patient will respond positively to treatment prior to its initiation, through evaluation of characteristics like nanoparticle extravasation and retention potential in the tumor, may be a way to improve nanomedicine success rate...

INTRODUCTION: Neurolymphomatosis (NL) is a rare disease. Ultrasound (US) plays a crucial role in diagnosing and following up the NL. CASE PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old man was hospitalized with acute pain in the left upper extremity. Ultrasound revealed segmental swelling of multiple nerves around his left elbow with abundant blood flow signals. Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) showed a rapid, complete and homogenous enhancement in the nerve lesions in the early arterial phase...

Multi-systemic metastasis in patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is very rare, and there are nearly no relevant imaging reports, especially in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). We present here a 40-year-old male patient who underwent several partial small bowel resections and endoscopic polypectomy for intestinal polyps. After reviewing the patient's clinical diagnosis and treatment process, CEUS with sulfur hexafluoride microbubbles (SonoVue, Bracco, Milan, Italy) in the liver and gastrointestinal tract was performed...

Hepatic hemangiomas are the most common benign liver tumors. Typically, small- to medium-sized hemangiomas are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally through the widespread use of imaging techniques. Giant hemangiomas (>5 cm) have a higher risk of complications. A variety of imaging methods are used for diagnosis. Cavernous hemangioma is the most frequent type, but radiologists must be aware of other varieties. Conservative management is often adequate, but some cases necessitate targeted interventions...

Ectopic spleen (ES) is a rare condition. It is difficult to diagnose with conventional imaging modalities. In this case series, we presented the imaging features of three misdiagnosed ES cases in our hospital and previously reported cases to compare the consistency of enhancement patterns among different imaging modalities with varied phases. Finally, 22 cases were reviewed. We determined that variable arterial phase enhancement and persistent enhancement throughout the portal and delayed phases are present in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging of the ES and found the arterial phase of CEUS had the highest consistency compared with computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)...
