Any listening task, from sound recognition to sound-based communication, rests on auditory memory which is known to decline in healthy ageing. However, how this decline maps onto multiple components and stages of auditory memory remains poorly characterised. In an online unsupervised longitudinal study, we tested ageing effects on implicit auditory memory for rapid tone patterns. The test required participants (younger, aged 20-30, and older adults aged 60-70) to quickly respond to rapid regularly repeating patterns emerging from random sequences...

BACKGROUND: Primary angiosarcomas of the breast are rare and highly aggressive. We herein report a rare case of multiple angiosarcomas detected concurrently in both breasts. CASE PRESENTATION: A 49-year-old woman visited a doctor after noticing a lump in her right breast. At that time, mammography and ultrasonography revealed no abnormal findings in either breast. She was referred to our hospital 5 months later, because screening mammography had revealed a focal asymmetric density in her right breast...

BACKGROUND: Previous models for differentiating benign and malignant thyroid nodules(TN) have predominantly focused on the characteristics of the nodules themselves, without considering the specific features of the thyroid gland(TG) in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis(HT). In this study, we analyzed the clinical and ultrasound radiomics(USR) features of TN in patients with HT and constructed a model for differentiating benign and malignant nodules specifically in this population...

BACKGROUND: Neck ultrasound (US) is a widely used and accessible operator-dependent technique that helps characterize thyroid nodules and pathologic parathyroid glands (PPGs). However, thyroid nodules may sometimes be confused with PPGs. PARATH-US study aims at identifying US characteristics to differentiate PPGs from thyroid nodules, as there is no study, at present, which directly compares the US features of these two common neoplasms. METHODS: PARATH-US is a single-center study that was conducted at a tertiary referral center, including consecutive lesions from patients undergoing neck US examination from 2016 to 2022...

RATIONALE: Female genital tract abnormalities are relatively uncommon and usually discovered accidentally. And hymen prolapse is even rarer, which is asymptomatic and is commonly found during the examination of the baby external genitals. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we report a case of fetal genital abnormality detected at 32 weeks of gestation. DIAGNOSES: At 32+1 weeks of pregnancy, ultrasound showed taht an iso-echoic mass of about 8 mm × 5 mm was protruding from the genitalia, and at 36 weeks, ultrasound showed that an iso-echoic mass of about 9 mm × 5 mm could be seen protruding from the genitalia, and its morphology was similar to the result of the 32-week data...

A Breus' mole is a massive subchorionic thrombohematoma that arises below the chorionic plate on the fetal side of the placenta. It requires careful perinatal management because of the associated high incidence of severe fetal growth restriction and intrauterine fetal demise. However, the mechanism of its development remains unclear, and there are no reports examining the continuous changes in the hematomas. Herein, we report a case of a Breus' mole in which ultrasonographic massive subchorionic thrombohematoma changes were observed during pregnancy...

METHODS: In this retrospective study, we included patients with histopathologically confirmed HCC lesions and divided them into three groups on the basis of tumor size. All patients underwent Sonazoid-enhanced CEUS examinations before surgery...

INTRODUCTION: Injuries of the great toe are common sports-related injuries; however, isolated traumatic plantar plate tears at the interphalangeal (IP) joint are relatively rare. Here, we present a pediatric case of a chronic plantar plate tear of the IP joint of the great toe that was difficult to diagnose definitively, which delayed surgical treatment. Although much progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment of IE, its complications, such as annular abscesses [2], still have a high mortality rate. In this case, we describe a patient with infective endocarditis complicated by occult deteriorated aortic annular abscess. Rhabdomyosarcoma developing in deep locations, such as the genitourinary tract, and perianal and perineal regions, symptoms may be obscure. Dermal rhabdomyosarcoma metastases may be first symptom of that and those arise in the subcutaneous fat tissue, presenting as a high echoic area surrounded by a low echoic area, accompanied by a high echoic peripheral area. These sonographic findings might indicate an aggressive malignant disease, and that would be useful to differentiate from other dermal lesions.

Core needle biopsy of breast masses is a common procedure for tissue diagnosis of breast lesions. The incidence of complications is low, with pseudoaneurysm (PA) after core biopsy has been described in the literature, and the subsequent need for surgical management. Ultrasonography is the most common modality used for not only diagnosis but also treatment of a PA. Color Doppler images show a heterogeneous echoic lesion with whirling flow inside of the lesion. We describe a patient whose breast PA that developed after core needle biopsy was successfully treated with sonographically-guided intravascular glue embolization...

Large-cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumor (LCCST) is a rare, testicular sex cord, gonadal stromal tumor that belongs to the histological subgroup of Sertoli cell tumors. LCCSTs may involve malignant potential. However, metastasis is a rare phenomenon. We describe a case of benign late-onset LCCST with testis-sparing surgery. Modern imaging techniques were useful for considering organ-sparing surgery. The ultrasound of a 37-year-old man disclosed a sharp demarcated and strong hyper-echoic lesion sized 1...

BACKGROUND: A calcified amorphous tumour (CAT) is a non-neoplastic mass lesion arising within the cardiac chamber. CATs are rare but are a common cause of organ embolism. In the present study, we experienced a case of an intracardiac mass with calcification that, in contrast to a typical CAT, suddenly appeared and rapidly expanded without an inflammatory response based on pathological findings. CASE SUMMARY: A 58-year-old Japanese man undergoing peritoneal haemodialysis had a high-echoic mobile mass (15 × 6 mm), which was not visible on the transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) approximately a month earlier, in the left ventricular outflow tract noted on TTE performed during a close examination for fever...

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST), a rare soft-tissue sarcoma, is most commonly located in the trunk, extremities, and head and neck, but rare in the breast. We report a metastatic breast MPNST in a 27-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1). Chest computed tomography revealed a well-defined, oval, mildly enhancing nodule in the right breast. US revealed a circumscribed, oval, heterogeneous echoic mass with vascularity and intermediate elasticity in the right upper outer breast. The breast mass was excised and diagnosed as MPNST on histopathology evaluation...
