Portfolio optimization involves finding the ideal combination of securities and shares to reduce risk and increase profit in an investment. To assess the impact of risk in portfolio optimization, we utilize a significant volatility risk measure series. Behavioral finance biases play a critical role in portfolio optimization and the efficient allocation of stocks. Regret, within the realm of behavioral finance, is the feeling of remorse that causes hesitation in making significant decisions and avoiding actions that could lead to poor investment choices...

It is becoming harder to tell rumors from non-rumors as social media becomes a key news source, which invites malicious manipulation that could do harm to the public's health or cause financial loss. When faced with situations when the session structure of comment sections is deliberately disrupted, traditional models do not handle them adequately. In order to do this, we provide a novel rumor detection architecture that combines dual comparison learning, adversarial training, and attention filters. We suggest the attention filter module to achieve the filtering of some dangerous comments as well as the filtering of some useless comments, allowing the nodes to enter the GAT graph neural network with greater structural information...

BACKGROUND: Rare diseases in Europe are defined as diseases with a prevalence of less than 5 per 10,000 people. Despite their individual rarity, the total number of rare diseases is considerable. Rare diseases are often chronic and complex, affecting physical, mental, and neurological health. People with rare diseases face challenges such as delayed diagnosis, limited medical support, and financial burden. Caregivers, usually family members, bear significant physical and emotional burdens...

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, women have experienced more job loss owing to an increase in household and caregiving responsibilities. Gender inequities coupled with pandemic-related stressors have resulted in poor health outcomes among women. Globally, women have reported higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress in response to the pandemic. Evidence suggests that social determinants of health have contributed to women's poor health outcomes. Materials and Methods: We used the Understanding America Study to describe the social impacts women have experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic when compared with men and to explore the association between partnership status and social impacts in Los Angeles...

BACKGROUND: Strength of evidence is key to advancing children's mental health care but may be inadequate for driving practice change. The Designing for Accelerated Translation (DART) framework proposes a multifaceted approach: pace of implementation as a function of evidence of effectiveness, demand for the intervention, sum of risks, and costs. To inform empirical applications of DART, we solicited caregiver preferences on key elements. METHOD: In March-April 2022, we fielded a population-representative online survey in Illinois households (caregivers N = 1,326) with ≥1 child <8 years old...

Regulatory agencies must balance patient demands to access new treatments for fatal diseases with limited treatment options while ensuring drug safety and efficacy. However, questionable U.S. regulatory actions resulted in the early approval of AMX0035 to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by reconvening advisory commissions to obtain positive decisions and designating the drug as a new molecular entity. Data from one randomized clinical trial suggests minimal delays in disease progression and longer survivability, but debate remains about the lack of confirmatory evidence of effectiveness owing to study limitations...

The increasing prevalence of Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) pulmonary disease poses a significant therapeutic challenge, particularly due to the limited efficacy and systemic toxicity associated with conventional guideline-based therapy. Amikacin liposome inhalation suspension (ALIS) has been developed, yet its real-world application remains underreported. This retrospective analysis, conducted from March 2021 to February 2024, examined ALIS's clinical use in patients aged 20 years or older with refractory MAC pulmonary disease at our institution...

INTRODUCTION: Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is used to manage various life-threatening illnesses. It is widely performed by nephrologists, intensivists, pathologists, or experts in transfusion medicine worldwide. However, the costs of TPE sessions are exceedingly high, and they have a huge impact on patients' financial burden. Herein, we investigated the outcomes of the reuse of plasma filters in TPE on several occasions. METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of patients receiving TPE from January 1, 2020, to April 30, 2023, in the Department of Nephrology...

Electronic health records (EHR) have revolutionized healthcare by providing efficient access to patient information, but their implementation poses various challenges. This paper examines the ethical and legal issues surrounding EHR adoption, particularly focusing on the healthcare landscape in India. Ethical considerations, including patient autonomy, confidentiality, beneficence, and justice, must guide EHR implementation to protect patient rights and privacy. Legal issues such as medical errors, malpractice, data breaches, and billing inaccuracies underscore the importance of robust policies and security measures...

Many financial situations present individuals with simple alternatives to solving complex problems. The value of these alternatives depends on whether individuals are sophisticated and know when they are better off opting out of complexity. We tested complexity's effects and evaluated sophistication in a large and diverse sample. We randomly assigned both complexity to portfolio problems and the offer of a simple alternative to portfolio choice. The less-skilled earn lower returns under complexity because they often opt out when the simple alternative is dominated...

INTRODUCTION: Food insecurity has remained a serious public health problem in developing countries, such as Ethiopia, over the past two decades. Vulnerable populations, such as pensioners, have been affected by this problem because of emerging socio-demographic changes, a global financial crisis, and climate change, all of which have contributed to the high food prices. Hence, this study aimed to assess household food security status and associated factors among pensioners in Arba Minch town, South Ethiopia...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) constitutes a neurodegenerative disorder marked by a progressive decline in cognitive function and memory capacity. This study encompasses subjects exhibiting varying degrees of cognitive impairment, encompassing individuals with subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia, constituting a total sample size of 82 participants...

Large language models (LLMs) have been proposed to support many healthcare tasks, including disease diagnostics and treatment personalization. While AI models may be applied to assist or enhance the delivery of healthcare, there is also a risk of misuse. LLMs could be used to allocate resources based on unfair, inaccurate, or unjust criteria. For example, a social credit system uses big data to assess "trustworthiness" in society, punishing those who score poorly based on evaluation metrics defined only by a power structure (corporate entity, governing body)...

Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) impose an enormous societal and financial burden, and world-wide, alcohol misuse is the 7th leading cause of premature death1. Despite this, there are currently only 3 FDA approved pharmacological treatments for the treatment of AUDs in the United States. The neurotensin (Nts) system has long been implicated in modulating behaviors associated with alcohol misuse. Recently, a novel compound, SBI-553, that biases the action of Nts receptor 1 (NTSR1) activation, has shown promise in preclinical models of psychostimulant misuse...
