Radiation protection in the scrotum to reduce the risk of genetic effect in the future is very important. This study aimed to measure the scrotal dose outside the treatment fields by using the radio-photoluminescence glass dosimeter (RPLGD). The characteristics of RPLGD model GD-302M were studied. Scattered dose to scrotum was measured in one liposarcoma case with the prescribed dose of 60 Gy. RPLGDs were placed in three different locations: one RPLGD was positioned at the posterior area which closer to the scrotum, and the other two RPLGDs were placed between the penis and the scrotum...

Liposarcoma is the most common histologic subtype of soft tissue sarcoma in the retroperitoneum. The distinction of primary cord liposarcomas, which arise in and are confined to the inguinal canal, from inguinoscrotal extension of a retroperitoneal tumor is mandatory. Both can be found incidentally in inguinal hernia sac specimens. Preoperative diagnosis is essential for adequate surgery with clear margins. We present a clinicopathological correlation of two men with slowly growing right para-testicular masses diagnosed as inguinal hernias...

Leiomyomas are benign mesenchymal tumors, the overwhelming majority of which are located in the uterus. Rare cases arise in other organs, including the scrotum, pelvis, bladder, and spermatic cord. This report evaluates the case of a 37-year-old man with a history of prior left inguinal hernia repair, who presented with a painless right scrotal mass. He first noticed the mass approximately 1 year prior to his initial visit. Subsequent ultrasound of the scrotum demonstrated a 5-cm circumscribed, hypoechoic, mildly vascular extratesticular mass located within the right hemiscrotum...

We report a first case of paraneoplastic human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) production in a dedifferentiated liposarcoma with rhabdosarcomatous differentiation in an 83-year-old man with a retroperitoneal mass, unilateral scrotal enlargement, and a serum HCG level of 843 IU/L. Core biopsy of the retroperitoneal mass revealed rhabdomyosarcoma. Orchiectomy revealed a paratesticular dedifferentiated liposarcoma with rhabdosarcomatous differentiation. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis performed on both the retroperitoneal and paratesticular masses revealed amplification of MDM2...

The paratestis (PT) is defined by the testicular tunics, epididymis, spermatic cord, rete testis, and embryonic remnants. It gives rise to a large diversity of pathologies, including those of soft tissue, which may prompt orchiectomy. We performed a 17-year search of our database for orchiectomies for a PT soft-tissue mass. In a total of 4741 orchiectomy specimens, 138 orchiectomies were performed for primary neoplastic or nonneoplastic masses of the PT soft tissue or had an incidental PT soft-tissue mass. Of these, 65...

OBJECTIVES: Approximately 1 % of all malignant solid tumours of the head and neck area are metastases from primary tumours beneath the clavicles. The aim of this study was to analyse the distribution of primary tumours since meta-analyses might have been biased due to the usually extraordinary character of case reports. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All patient files from 1970 to 2012 from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit at a University Hospital were analysed regarding the existence of metastases to the head and neck area from distant primaries...

A 68-year-old man underwent an inguinal orchiectomy for a right testicular tumor and the pathological diagnosis was atypical lipomatous tumor. Nine years later, a resection procedure was performed for local recurrence. Five years after that second surgery, abdominal computed tomography (CT) findings revealed a low density mass 40 mm in size on the back side of the right kidney and enlarged fat in the retroperitoneal space. We performed a laparoscopic tumor resection under a diagnosis of lipoma or liposarcoma recurrence, and the pathological diagnosis was well differentiated liposarcoma...

Sclerosing liposarcoma of epididymis is a rare extratesticular scrotal tumor with variable prognosis. Ultrasonography is the initial imaging modality of choice for the evaluation of scrotal mass and helps to differentiate testicular and extratesticular masses, thereby narrowing down the differential diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging with its excellent soft tissue resolution can help in the further characterization of the nature of the tumor. In this case report, we highlight the role of chemical shift imaging in making a confident preoperative diagnosis of liposarcoma thereby guiding optimal and timely management...

A 69-year-old man was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of a painless right scrotal swelling gradually increasing in size during the past 10 years. Testicular tumor markers were within the normal range. Ultrasonography showed an intrascrotal homogeneous mass. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an inguinal mass, which mainly consisted of fat signal area and partially well enhanced in vascular density. Pre-surgical diagnosis was liposarcoma of spermatic cord estimated by radiographic examination and resection of the right intrascrotal tumor with high inguinal orchitectomy was performed...

A 92-year-old man had noticed enlargement of a mass in the right scrotum and inguinal region for nine months. The patient was introduced to our department for right testicular tumor. Physical examination showed an over fist-sized, hard mass in the right scrotum. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the mass, which consisted of fatty and solid contents. In addition, MRI revealed a bladder tumor simultaneously. Computed tomography revealed no distant metastases. The patient underwent right high orchiectomy with the mass resection and transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT)...

The prognostic factors of retroperitoneal liposarcoma have yet to be clearly determined due to its rarity, whereas the prognostic value of symptoms at diagnosis has never been evaluated to date. In this context, we reviewed 24 consecutive patients with primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma who underwent surgical resection with curative intent at our institution. The Kaplan-Meier analysis and the log-rank test were used to estimate progression-free survival (PFS; primary endpoint) and sarcoma-specific survival (SSS; secondary endpoint)...

The paper reviews the literature on primary paratesticular tumors. It describes the classification, brief characteristics of liposarcomas and the morphological pattern of the tumor with an immunohistochemical profile. A clinical case of differentiated liposarcoma of the spermatic cord with myxoid and rhabdomyoblastic differentiation is depicted in a 61-year-old man.

Liposarcoma accounts for 20% of all sarcomas and is a rare occurrence in the paratesticular region. We present the case of a 66-year-old man with a massive liposarcoma of the right scrotum invading the lower limb and the abdominal wall skin. The case concerns an unusually large and aggressive liposarcoma (25 cm), presenting with multiple lung and nodal metastases. The patient had an unfavourable evolution with rapid progression of metastases, although there were no signs of local disease. In this case, a wide local excision was performed in order to obtain local control of the disease...

Spermatic cord liposarcomas are very rare tumors. Patients usually present with painless growing scrotal swellings which are clinically misdiagnosed as hernia. The correct diagnosis is not common and usually they present as operative or histological surprises. To our knowledge, there are about 186 similar cases reported in the literature. Herein we report three cases of spermatic cord liposarcoma with clinical presentation of scrotal bulging, mimicking inguinal hernia in one case and resembling a testicular tumor in the other two cases...

Paratesticular liposarcomas are rare tumors that typically affect adult. Diagnosis is very difficult and inadequate surgical excision leads to a high rate of recurrence. We report a case of local recurrence of paratesticular liposarcoma diagnosed six months following surgery.Since there is low response to adjuvant treatments, extensive surgery remains the only curative approach, as shown by the case described here and the following review of the literature.

Paratesticular sarcomas are rare and account for less than 1% of all adult sarcomas. Intrascrotal tumours can be testicular or paratesticular, paratesticular tumours being rarer (7-10%). Only 30% of paratesticular tumours are malignant and 90% of these are sarcomas. Histological subtypes include leiomyosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, liposarcoma and undifferentiated high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma. Recurrence is frequent in this type of tumour and can occur years from initial diagnosis. These reports show two cases of paratesticular sarcoma with very distinct evolutions...
