BACKGROUND: Dexamethasone-phosphate (Dex-PO4 ) and the combination betamethasone-phosphate (Beta-PO4 ) + betamethasone-acetate (Beta-Ac) are the most used antenatal corticosteroids to promote fetal lung maturation. We compared fetal lung maturation induced by Beta-Ac+Beta-PO4 , Dex-PO4 , or Beta-PO4 alone. METHODS: Pregnant ewes received two intramuscular doses 24 h apart of 0.25 mg/kg/dose of Beta-Ac+Beta-PO4 , Dex-PO4 or Beta-PO4 ; or 2 doses of 0.125 mg/kg/dose of Beta-PO4 at 6, 12, or 24 h intervals...

To the date, no reports exist of the pharmacokinetics (PK) of betamethasone (BTM) sodium phosphate and betamethasone acetate administered intra-articular (IA) into multiple joints in exercising horses. The purpose of the study was to determine the PK of BTM and HYD concentrations in plasma and urine after IA administration of a total of 30 mg BTM. Eight 4 years old Thoroughbred mares were exercised on a treadmill and BTM was administered IA. Plasma and urine BTM and HYD were determined via high performance liquid chromatography spectrometry for 6 weeks...

PURPOSE: Corticosteroids are commonly injected into the joint space. However, studies have not examined the chondrotoxicity of one-time injection doses. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (Decadron), methylprednisolone acetate (Depo-Medrol), betamethasone sodium phosphate and betamethasone acetate (Celestone Soluspan), and triamcinolone acetonide (Kenalog) on human chondrocyte viability in vitro. METHODS: Single-injection doses of each of the corticosteroids were separately delivered to human chondrocytes for their respective average duration of action and compared to controls using a bioreactor containing a continuous infusion pump constructed to mimic joint fluid metabolism...

BACKGROUND: Epidural steroid injections (ESI) are commonly used in managing radicular pain. The risk of complications with epidural steroids is small, with the majority of complications being non-specific. Flushing is a known side effect of corticosteroid administration. The occurrence of flushing after epidural steroids has not been studied prospectively. OBJECTIVE: To compare flushing as a side effect of Betamethasone acetate/Betamethasone sodium phosphate (Celestone) vs...
