AIMS: Reports indicate that during pregnancy hypertension is known to have long term adverse effects both in the mother and offspring. However, the effect of maternal micronutrient supplementation on this association of in utero exposure and risk of non-communicable diseases in the later life remains unclear. The present study examines the effect of maternal micronutrient and omega-3 fatty acid supplementation either individual or in combination on cardiometabolic risk factors both in the mother and offspring using an animal model of hypertension...

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women with heart disease are at high risk. Studies of risk factors of these patients are of great significance to improve maternal and fetal outcomes. In this paper, we try to discuss the main risk factors of cardiac events in pregnant women with heart disease and to establish a risk assessment system. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was carried out for pregnancies in 1741 women with heart disease who delivered in Shanghai Obstetrical Cardiology Intensive Care Center between January 1993 and September 2010...

MULTICENTER STUDY

This open non-randomized study had the objective to analyse the course of pregnancy and labor as well as their outcomes in 62 women with hypertensive disease (essential hypertention). The patients were allocated to two groups, one (group 1) comprising 32 the other (group 2, control) 30 women. All patients in group 1 underwent pregravid preparation and remained under observation throughout the pregnancy period in specialized cardiological departments. They were given treatment that included intake of antihypertensive drugs (methyldopa, long-acting nifedipin, metoprolol), desaggregant (dipyridamole, pentoxifllin), and metabolically active agent (vitamin E, folic acid, magnesium orotate, actovegin, cocarboxylase, and inosin)...

AIM: To study the influence of platelets on the expression of platelet/T cell activation antegen 1 (PTA1) and release of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) from vascular endothelial cells (ECV304) stimulated with pregnancy induced hypertention (PIH) patient sera. METHODS: The expression of PTA1 on ECV304 cells stimulated with PIH patient sera and incubated with or without platelets was analyzed by flow cytometry. ELISA was employed to measure the quantity of PDGF released from ECV304 cells...

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of maternal occupation on reproductive outcomes, including pregnancy outcome and neonatal status, and complications of pregnancy and delivery. METHODS: Data were extracted from 12 224 obstetric records of eight hospitals in Beijing, and all the subjects recruited in the study were interviewed before discharge during from May 1992 to April 1993. Pregnancy and reproductive outcomes were analyzed according to their occupational classifications, adjusted for the potential confounding factors, such as age, smoking and drinking during pregnancy and history of spontaneous abortion...

OBJECTIVE: To measure levels of endothelin (ET) and beta-human chorionic gonodotropin (beta-hCG) and analyse the correlation between them in patients with pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH), as well as to investigate their role in the pathogenesis of PIH. METHODS: 32 patients with PIH were matched with 17 normal term singleton pregnant women. ET and beta-hCG levels of above patients and 14 nonpregnant health reproductive age women were determined by radioimmunoassay...

OBJECTIVE: To study the immunologic etiopathology of pregnancy induced hypertention (PIH) in some extent by analyzing the antibody secretion of B lymphocytes of PIH patients. METHODS: The subjects were divided into two groups: PIH group (n = 15) and normotensive control group (n = 15). Peripheral lymphocytes of the subjucts were separated by Ficoll-Hypaque density centrifugation. The lymphocytes were cultured in RPMI-1640 medium with or without pokeweed mitogen (PWM) for ten days...
