Opioid use disorder (OUD) continues to impact communities worldwide. British Columbia specifically declared a public health emergency in April 2016. It is known that patients with OUD often experience barriers in access to care, including limited knowledge and training among providers, as well as persisting stigma in the medical community. The Doctor of Nursing Practice quality improvement project sought to provide barrier-targeted OUD education while using multiple effective teaching methods, such as test-enhanced learning, to family nurse practitioners (FNPs) working among private primary care clinics to assess the impact on knowledge and attitudes...

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project collection is a group of approximately 120 DNP projects archived between 2017 and 2022 in Health Sciences Research Commons (HSRC), the health sciences institutional repository (IR) for the George Washington University. Our project focused on expanding avenues for the dissemination of DNP projects beyond our Digital Commons IR by integrating this content into the library's instances of Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE. By utilizing the Ex Libris Repository type import profile rather than the OAI-PMH feed, we identified enhanced opportunities for content discovery while likewise retaining better control over individual item records...

Even if everything is done right in justifying the clinical benefit of a healthcare initiative, it cannot be sustainable if, first and foremost, the temperament of the practice environment, including the wider institutional hierarchy, is not accurately gauged. The purpose of this article is to provide the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) researcher with a systematic structure enabling a review of the larger context of the proposed clinical innovation. This review supports a DNP-led healthcare initiative through self-analysis of the researcher's role; forging a relationship with a mentor; the analysis and mitigation of institutional, collaborative, and organizational barriers; and negotiating strategic partnerships with colleagues and departments and sharing their work and expertise...

INTRODUCTION: In 2016, a 263-bed public district hospital in California trialed a peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) inserted using ultrasound, with the potential to increase first attempt success in difficult intravenous access (DIVA) patients. This led to the implementation of a hospital-wide initiative to improve nursing vascular access skills and expedite vascular access device (VAD) placement. METHODS: To trial a PIVC and ultrasound-guided (USG) insertion, a training program was developed and led to a doctoral Capstone project piloting an evidence-based nurse-driven protocol for the identification of DIVA patients...

BACKGROUND: Advanced practice nursing education is evolving to the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) DNP Essentials required 1000 hours of direct patient care, whereas the Report of the National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education (NTF) Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs required 500 direct patient care hours. Indirect hours were unclear and undefined. The AACN Essentials changed the 1000-hour requirement to 500 practice hours, and the NTF increased the direct patient care hours to 750...

However, health-care systems continue to struggle with implementing and sustaining EBPs. This editorial connects each article in this issue to the theme, Challenging Long-Held Assumptions, by raising questions. How do we really determine value in health care? How do good, new ideas make it into practice? Why the untapped potential of Doctor of Nursing Practice preparation? Can we actually teach nursing students creativity? Do virtual group appointments actually work? How in the world do families care for loved ones at home on mechanical ventilation? Can nursing educators truly decolonize their own thinking? Is simulation a poor substitute for clinical placements, or just as good and sometimes better? Can the power of social media be used for good? Can simulation actually make new nurses more likely to call a code when it's needed? How can farm animals help people dealing with mental illness? And a question crucial to us all as human beings: Can forgiveness ever be bad?...

The first Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program was opened at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing (UKCON) in 2001. As the CON celebrates 20 plus years of DNP education, leaders decided to do an assessment of the accomplishments and outcomes from the work of graduates. The purpose of this study was to delineate the achievements, outcomes and perception of the impact of graduates from the UKCON DNP program and assess the correlations of specific "perception of impact" variables. DNP graduates from 2005 to 2021 (n = 348) received an email about the study and a link to the survey...

Because of the increasing number of Doctor of Nursing Practice projects generated, these students and their mentors must be familiar with commonly used guidelines for reporting QI projects to facilitate peer review, demonstrate quality and rigor of work, reduce revisions, and potentially accelerate a paper's acceptance for publication...

National nursing organizations have called for nurses to provide leadership in care solutions for high-cost/high-needs vulnerable populations. In response to this call, important modifications are emerging in Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, including an increasing number of nurses pursuing dual certification in primary care and psychiatric mental health or primary care nurse practitioners returning for a postgraduate certificate in psychiatric mental health. This innovative role warrants examination, particularly because it relates to high-needs/high-cost patients such as those with serious mental illness (SMI)...
