Bletilla striata Rchb.f., is a perennial herbaceous bulbous plant known as the Chinese ground or hyacinth orchid classified in the Orchidaceae. It is native to southeast Asia and mainly distributed in China, Japan and northern Myanmar (He et al. 2017). It has the functions of astringent hemostasis and analgesia, and can also be used to treat traumatic bleeding, ulcers, swelling and chapped skin. Therefore, it occupies an important position in traditional Chinese medicine (Xu et al. 2019). In June 2023, three farmers in Mengzi (103...

Cavendish banana (Musa spp. AAA group) is one of the main fruit crops worldwide. It is widely planted in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Fujian and Yunnan provinces in southern China. In November 2020, banana fruits with anthracnose symptoms were collected from Dayu Town (N 23.17°, E 109.80°), Guigang City, and Chengjun Town (N 22.60°, E 110.00°), Yulin City, Guangxi Province, China, where the disease was found on about 70% of the banana plants, and on individual fruit, up to 10% of the surface was covered with symptoms...

Alcea rosea , belonging to the Alcea genus in the Malvaceae family, originated from China, but it is now grown worldwide. A. rosea has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to alleviate constipation, pain, swelling, and sores. In February 2023, typical symptoms of fungal infection were observed on A. rosea at Guizhou Normal University in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China. The disease incidence was over 90% (n = 100) for the surveyed A. rosea plants, and the disease severity range from 30% to 90%. The initial symptoms of A...

We report a case of alpha-fetoprotein-producing endometrioid carcinoma (AFP-EC) that originated within an adenomyoma of the uterine corpus. A 76-year-old Japanese woman was incidentally discovered to have a uterine tumor along with multiple lung nodules. Upon surgical removal of the uterus, it was revealed that the tumor was situated within the adenomyoma. The tumor exhibited microfollicular structures and solid growth patterns, with hyaline globules, clear cell glands, and primitive tumor cells. Immunohistochemical analysis indicated the presence of germ cell markers, including AFP, SALL4, and glypican3, leading to final diagnosis of AFP-EC...

Soft tissue neoplasms harboring fusions between EWSR1 or FUS with genes encoding CREB transcription factors family (ATF1, CREB1, and CREM) are an emerging heterogeneous group of mesenchymal tumors that differ significantly in morphology, immunophenotypes, and behavior. Recently, EWSR1/FUS::CREB fusions have been recognized to define a group of aggressive neoplasms of epithelioid morphology with multiple growth patterns and a striking predilection for mesothelial-lined cavities. These neoplasms presenting as a primary neoplasm of intra-abdominal visceral organs is rare, which could elicit a wide range of differential diagnoses due to their diverse morphologies and immunohistochemical profiles...

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), which is one of the most widely used chemotherapy drugs, has various side effects on the heart. Thymoquinone (TMQ), the main bioactive component of Nigella sativa, has antioxidant and protective effects against toxicity. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of thymoquinone against cardiotoxicity caused by 5-FU in vitro and in vivo models. H9C2 cells were exposed to 5-FU and TMQ, and cell viability was evaluated in their presence. Also, 25 male Wistar rats were divided into five control groups, 5-FU, 2...

BACKGROUND: Cartilage defects are some of the most common causes of arthritis. Cartilage lesions caused by inflammation, trauma or degenerative disease normally result in osteochondral defects. Previous studies have shown that decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) derived from autologous, allogenic, or xenogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can effectively restore osteochondral integrity. AIM: To determine whether the decellularized ECM of antler reserve mesenchymal cells (RMCs), a xenogeneic material from antler stem cells, is superior to the currently available treatments for osteochondral defects...

A mesonephric-like endometrial adenocarcinoma (ML-EAC) is very rare and has a worse prognosis than other endometrial carcinomas. We describe an ML-EAC and report our endometrial cytological findings. A 76-year-old woman presented with irregular genital bleeding and a uterine mass. Endometrial cytology revealed atypical cylindrical or spindle-shaped cells in the form of small aggregates or solitary cells. The initial symptoms were brown-to-dark brown lesions, and with disease progression, they enlarged and the pulp became soft, forming a brown band. Coronavirus adult respiratory distress syndrome, characterized by decreased surfactant due to lysis of type II pneumocytes and hyaline membrane formation, contributes to severe hypoxemia. The administration of surfactant via high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) may positively affect lung structure and function in this context. Idiopathic osteosclerosis (IO) is described as a localized radiopacity of unknown etiology. Also known as dense bone islands, enostoses, bone scar, or focal periapical osteopetrosis, it is generally clinically asymptomatic and appears round, elliptical, or irregular in shape on a radiograph. The internal structure is usually homogenous. It should be distinguished from condensing osteitis and other alveolar bone-related radiopacities. This condition may cause changes in tooth position or interfere with orthodontic treatment...

Osteochondral lesions (OCL) of the knee are a common pathology that can be challenging to address. Due to the innate characteristics of articular cartilage, OCLs generally do not heal in adults and often progress to involve the subchondral bone, ultimately resulting in the development of osteoarthritis. The goal of articular cartilage repair is to provide a long-lasting repair that replicates the biological and mechanical properties of articular cartilage, but there is no widely adopted technique that results in true pre-injury state hyaline cartilage...

The papillary glioneuronal tumor is a WHO grade 1, rare neuronal-glial tumor and comprises 0.02% of all CNS tumors. Histologically, it is a mixture of glial and neuronal components showing a pseudopapillary pattern with hyalinized vessels. In this paper, we report a new case of papillary glioneuronal tumor in a 44-year-old male having a divergent presentation, to analyze it due to the rarity of its occurrence as per the latest classification...

The utilization of optimal orthodontic force is crucial to prevent undesirable side effects and ensure efficient tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. However, the sensitivity of existing detection techniques is not sufficient, and the criteria for evaluating optimal force have not been yet established. Here, by employing 3D finite element analysis methodology, we found that the apical distal region (A-D region) of mesial roots is particularly sensitive to orthodontic force in rats. Tartrate-resistant acidic phosphatase (TRAP)-positive osteoclasts began accumulating in the A-D region under the force of 40 grams (g), leading to alveolar bone resorption and tooth movement...
