Luxatio erecta is an inferior glenohumeral dislocation. It is an uncommon pathology with a prevalence of 0.5% of all shoulder dislocations. An open luxatio erecta presentation is rarer. After an extensive literature search, we only could find three complete case reports. From these cases, 2 out of 3 developed complications such as infections and severely limited range of motion, especially in flexion and abduction. We report the case of a 39-year-old man with an open inferior glenohumeral joint dislocation with complete rotator cuff tear and fracture of the greater tuberosity secondary to a motor vehicle accident...

Arthroscopic stabilization for posterior shoulder instability is well documented in the literature, offering good to excellent clinical outcomes after injury with favorable return-to-sport and patient satisfaction rates. Posterior capsulorrhaphy addresses recurrent laxity by decreasing the size of the posterior capsule through arthroscopic placement of sutures, in addition to addressing posterior labral tears and any intra-articular pathology within the joint. This technical note describes an arthroscopic posterior capsulorrhaphy for recurrent posterior shoulder capsule laxity and instability in an active patient...

INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains one of the most successful orthopedic surgical procedures. The posterior approach is associated with a higher incidence of post-operative dislocations than others. Adequate posterior soft tissue repair techniques, including capsulorrhaphy and transosseous bone sutures in the greater trochanter effectively reduce the dislocation rate. Post-operative "posterior hip precautions" were historically believed to reduce dislocation risks, although not clearly proven...

Implant malposition remains one of the main complications of aesthetic breast augmentation and alloplastic breast reconstruction with expanders and implants. Many capsulorrhaphy techniques have been described to adjust the breast pocket and correct the malposition. In this study, we tested the efficacy of the argon beam coagulator (ABC) for lateral capsulorrhaphy on breast reconstruction patients at the time of expander replacement with a permanent implant. We also experimentally compared the effects of the ABC and the standard electrocautery on fragments of healthy breast capsule...

Background: Medial patellar luxation (MPL) is a common orthopedic condition in dogs. After surgical correction, the recurrent rates appear to be higher and outcomes worse in grade IV than in lower grade MPL. Aim: To describe the outcomes of surgical correction of canine grade IV MPL. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of 16 dogs (11 females, 5 males; mean age = 5.05 years) with 22 stifle joints (8 left and 14 right) that underwent MPL surgery at Rakuno Gakuen University between May 2015 and October 2020...

UNLABELLED: The suture anchor-enhanced medial capsulorrhaphy of the great toe is utilized as an adjuvant procedure to proximal and distal osteotomies for the treatment of hallux valgus. In traditional open techniques, hallux valgus repair requires both osseous correction along with shortening of the capsule on the medial side of the metatarsophalangeal joint. Osseous correction typically corrects the intermetatarsal angle, whereas capsular correction maintains the hallux valgus angle1 ...

PURPOSE: To investigate the necessity of performing capsulorrhaphy during open reduction of DDH. METHODS: A single-centre, prospective, randomized controlled trial was conducted between 2015 and 2020. The study included 82 hips in 67 patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) who were treated with open reduction via the anterior approach. Patients were randomized into two equal groups (41 hips in each group); group A (capsulorrhaphy was done) and group B (capsulorrhaphy was not done)...

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of reverse Hill-Sachs defect using osteo-chondral allograft has the advantages of spherical re-contouring and provision of smooth biological articular surface of the reconstructed humeral head. However, worldwide availability and risk of disease transmission of osteo-chondral allograft remain points of increasing concerns. As an alternative to lacking osteo-chondral allograft, the current technical note describes a reconstructive technique of reverse Hill-Sachs defect using autologous fibular grafting...

Introduction: The treatment of chronic shoulder instability, associated with poor tissue quality, remains challenging in the setting of anterior capsular deficiency. There are a few viable alternatives in the end-stage shoulder instability when multiple surgical attempts to correct the pathology have failed. The purpose of the present paper is to demonstrate the efficacy of anterior capsular reconstruction with semitendinosus autograft for the management of capsulolabral deficiency without associated bone loss...

BACKGROUND: The tremendous physical demands of elite performance increase the risk of elite athletes sustaining various orthopaedic injuries. Hip pain is common in high-level athletes representing up to 6% of all athletic injuries. Expedient diagnosis and effective treatment are paramount for their future sporting careers and to prevent subsequent joint degeneration. PURPOSE: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the outcome and the rate of return to play (RTP) following arthroscopic procedures in the hip (osteoplasty, chondroplasty, labral repair and/or debridement, capsulotomy, capsulorrhaphy or any soft tissue procedure) in elite athletes...

BACKGROUND: Hip dysplasia in the nonambulatory child with spastic cerebral palsy (CP) is a common condition not always effectively treated with conservative measures even when recognized early. Optimal surgical intervention strategies and timing are not clear from previous studies. Contralateral hips with less severe subluxation in these patients also often undergo surgery and little is known of outcomes of these less severe hips.
