Despite many years of experience in the field of hernia surgical treatment there still exist many unsolved problems such as a safe and non infected closure of defects of abdominal cavity wall. The aim of the study was to improve the result of treatment of abdominal wall hernias with the use of new antiseptic polymer, bio-composite protective mesh membrane covered with coladerm+chlorhexidine. Experimental study involved 21 rabbits. Meshes were fixed on anterior abdominal wall according to the following schewe: Option I: mesh size 10-20mm was put into both the groin area of the rabbits...

UNLABELLED: Castleman disease is rare diagnosis. It was first mentioned in literature in 1954 by doctor Castleman and Lown. It is rare sickness which primary affects lymfatic nodes. There are four histo-morfologic subtypes and two clinic manifestations (uni and mulicentric). Comon clinical picture is simple lymfadenopathy of neck, medistinal a retroperitonal lymfatic nodes. Signs of this disease are heterogenic and depend on histological subtype. Also prognosis depends on type of illness...

Solitary pulmonary nodule corresponds to a common radiographic finding, which is frequently detected incidentally. The investigation of this entity remains complex, since characteristics of benign and malignant processes overlap in the differential diagnosis. Currently, many strategies are available to evaluate solitary pulmonary nodules with the main objective of characterizing benign lesions as best as possible, while avoiding to expose patients to the risks inherent to invasive methods, besides correctly detecting cases of lung cancer so as the potential curative treatment is not delayed...

The effect of sulfated polysaccharide fucoidan from the brown alga Laminaria japonica on morphological characteristics of mouse lymphoid organs, subpopulations of spleen mononuclear leukocytes, cytokine production and cytotoxic activity of splenocytes has been investigated. Fucoidan promoted activation and proliferation of lymphoid hematopoietic cells in primary and secondary immunogenesis bodies, increased expression of markers CD19, NK, NKT, CD25, MHC II, TCR, TLR2 and TLR4, the cytotoxic activity of splenocytes and production of immunoregulatory and proinflammatory cytokines (IL- 2, IL-12, IFN-g, TNF-a, IL-6)...

UNLABELLED: Under current conditions the probability of simultaneous effects of radiation and chemical factors on biological objects increases, and that's why the issue of combined influence of factore different by their nature becomes progressively important. The objective was to study the cytotoxicity of nickel ions in a test-system of cell culture and to detect the cellular reactions under a combined impact of nickel ions and ionizing radiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Studies were performed on inoculated cell culture line L929...

CASE: Herein we report a case of a man with a B- cell non-Hodgkin lymfoma, primarily diagnosed by topographic and morfology tokens as lobular breast carcinoma and, as such, it was treated by chemotherapy and endocrine therapy. The treatment resulted in complete remission for 3,5 years. However, the subsequent relapses that arised in retrocrural and left axilary area did not respond adequately to breast cancer targeted chemotherapy. Therefore the patient underwent re-exstirpation of axillary lymph node yielding a surprising histology finding of folicular lymphoma...

PURPOSE: To characterize the correlation between functional and morphological changes in the retina in the retinal dystrophies in children. METHODS: In the group of six patients with selected types of retinal dystrophies was analysed the morphological findings obtained by the Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and their correlation with the electrophysiological findings. RESULTS: Typical morphological retinal changes visualised by OCT were confirmed in all examined patients and were in correlation with progressive loss of visual function (decrease of visual acuity, constriction of visual field or scotomas in visual field, colour vision defect, nyctalopia) and abnormal values of the electrophysiological findings...

White matter changes are one of the several aging brain alterations. Actually, magnetic resonance imaging is the best diagnostic tool in investigation and monitoring these lesions that determine some common clinical manifestations in the elderly population.

The results of clinico-morfological investigation of 220 arteries of the brain base from dead patients with aneurisms are in the article. The new facts and terms such as bifurcational hemodynamic aneurisms, segmental arterial ring of the brain and aneurysmal disease of the brain have been introduced. We have showed that aneurisms forms in the area of bifurcation, but not in linear segments of vessels. A junction of arteries in the bifurcation of vessels, formed by connective tissue, units muscle segments and takes place in development of aneurisms...

CINCA/NOMID syndrome was first reported in 1981, identified as a new disease in 1987 and the main cause discovered in 2001, when mutations in the CIAS1 gene modifying the structure of the protein cryopirin were found in those patients (although other factors seem to play a role). Together with the major symptoms that characterized the syndrome, neurological, cutaneous and articular manifestations, others have been added which seem to be quite constant among CINCA/NOMID diagnosed patients: pre and perinatal symptoms, morfological changes, outbreaks of fever and biological abnormalities which reveal a persistent inflammatory background...

BACKGROUNDS: The aim of this paper is to present an algorithm for plasma cell separation from bone marrow samples of multiple myeloma patients. The main prerequisite for applying modern research methods in this disease is gaining pure cell populations. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Bone marrow samples were collected from outpatients or inpatients of the Internal Haematology and Oncology Clinic of the Faculty Hospital Brno, after they had signed an Informed Consent Form...

Recurrent or metastatic GISTs are currently treated with kinase inhibitors since they achieves disease control in 70-85% of patients but this response depend on KIT and PDGFRA gene mutation status. We review the morfological and molecular findings associated to kinase inhibitors administration in GISTs based on the literature on Medline and authors' own experience. The initial response to kinase inhibitors (imatinib mesylate, Gleevec, Novartis) usually is partial and depend on the mutational KIT or PDGFRA state...

INTRODUCTION: The hysto-morfological composition of the ascending aorta wall gives to the vessel its characteristic elasticity/distensibility, which is deteriorated due to both physiological (age) and pathological events (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia). This contributes to reduce the wall elasticity and to occurrence of cardiovascular events. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty young healthy subjects (20 males, 10 females, age <30 yr), were subjected to different postural conditions with and without Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP) with conventional procedures, to simulate the microgravity conditions in space flight...

AIM: The aim of this retrospective study was to analyse the effectiveness of Andresen appliance in inducing an increased mandibular dimension and, above all, to test the "null" hypotesis that the patients' vertical skelettofacial morfology could influence this increase using the Ricketts' method of VERT. METHODS: Cephalometric records of 42 skeletal class II patients treated at the Orthodontic Department of Catania University were randomly selected. The sample was divided for vertical facial patterns, according to the facial classification method of Ricketts (VERT), into three groups: brachyfacial, mesiofacial and dolicofacial...

Primary pulmonary sarcomas are rare diseases unlike lung carcinomas. The occurence of these sarcomas is between 0.013-0.40% of all malignant lung tumours. There are malignant mesenchymal tumours. They are flowing from the soft tissue of lung. The pulmonary sarcomas are heterogenic group with various biological behaviour. Their morfologic structure does not digger from the sarcomas of soft tissue. The primary pulmonary sarcomas occur more often in childhood and in young people unlike lung carcinomas. Radiation and some toxic substances are noted risk factors...

On the basis of the pathologic findings glomerular changes were classified as follows: minimal in 5 patients; mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis in 11; focal and segmental proliferative glomerulonephritis in 5; diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis in 15; membranous glomerulonephritis in 3, and diffuse sclerosing glomerulo-nephritis in 2 cases.
