The University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry was established in 1957. Over the years, it has played an important role in Puerto Rico's healthcare system. That legacy is displayed through the walls of the School of Dentistry. In Part 1, the evolution of 20-year-old dental museum-like showcases located in the lobby and the main hallway of the school were described along with important professions who impacted on this development. In this paper, we will describe in detail the items available at the museum...

The impact of ground-breaking research on the dental pulp and its response to dental procedures, materials and associated diseases significantly influenced the evolution and scope of Endodontics, creating a science of Endodontology. While there were scattered studies in the early 20th century in this regard, the clarification and codification of these concepts took a major leap forward in the late 1950s due to the academic prowess and in-depth research endeavors of Dr. Kaare Langeland. The story begins during World War I in Norway...

A full account of the preceded early research tribulation that led to the development of the first visible light activated composite resin and the first visible light activator source is documented. The events took place over four years since early 1974 when a raw industrial composite resin that was radiolucent, stiff paste, universal optically opaque white color, polymerized by exposure to a prototype visible light for 120 seconds was given to developed. Four years later, the developed restorative composite resin ended up as a radiopaque, optically translucent, universal color with an additional three shades that possessed the biologic, esthetic, mechanical and physical characteristics with proven efficacy be used for esthetic zone...

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed in two-legs. In the in vivo, we explored the potential of a rinse solution containing a combination (Comb) of 0.1 mg/mL CaneCPI-5 (sugarcane-derive cystatin), 1.88 × 10- 5 M StN15 (statherin-derived peptide) and 1.0 mg/mL hemoglobin (Hb) to change the protein profile of the acquired enamel pellicle(AEP) and the microbiome of the enamel biofilm. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions and possible amount of movement in the maxillofacial region resulting from different maxillary advancement protocols in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A unilateral cleft lip and palate model (CLP model) with Goslon score 4 was created for finite element analysis. Three different protocols were compared: Group 1: usage of a face mask with elastics placed at a 30? angle to the occlusal plane over a conventional acrylic plate; Group 2: usage of a face mask with elastics placed at a 30? angle to the occlusal plane over miniplates placed in the infrazygomatic crest region; Group 3: usage of elastic from the menton plate placed in the mandible to the infrazygomatic plates in the maxilla...

The aim of this study was to determine, through a systematic review, the prevalence of dental trauma in contact and non-contact sports. This review was submitted to PROSPERO (CRD42023421206). Included studies addressed the prevalence of dental trauma in young athletes and adults above 18 years, excluding reviews, editorials, symposiums, or those evaluating athletes under 18 years. A literature search was conducted using the databases PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, LIVIVO, SPORTDiscus, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source (via EBSCO), and Lilacs and BBO, as well as gray literature...

Treatment of peri-implant diseases focuses on reducing the bacterial load and consequent infection control. The use of local antimicrobials as an adjunct to mechanical therapy may result in a better outcome. Among antimicrobials, doxycycline stands out because of its local modulation of cytokines, microbial reduction, and clinical parameters in the treatment of periodontal diseases. The objective of this case report was to describe the combined application of mechanical debridement and bioresorbable doxycycline-loaded nanospheres for the treatment of peri-implantitis in a 71-year-old man...

In addition to the proper selection of techniques, appropriate treatment sequencing and prioritization are prerequisites for successful periodontal and implant procedures. The aim of this study was to provide evidence-based time frames for various procedures pertaining to periodontal and implant treatment. A literature review was conducted to collect data on tissue healing; in areas in which data were lacking, the viewpoints of experienced clinicians were solicited to establish a consensus. This review reports recommended time frames for the healing processes associated with surgical crown-lengthening procedures (both functional and esthetic), fresh socket management, alveolar ridge management, soft tissue management, sinus floor augmentation, implant loading, and peri-implant defect management...

The Mondelli formula 1 (MF1), Mondelli formula 2 (MF2), Albers formula (AF), esthetic proportion (EP) for width and height of anterior teeth, and golden ratio (GR) were calculated for a total of 50 dental students (30 women and 20 men) who participated in the study. The following measurements were obtained directly in the participant's mouth with a digital caliper: the mesiodistal and incisogingival dimensions of the maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines; the intercanine distance; and the smile width...
