PURPOSE: To validate and extend the US case definition for the Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome (MCS) from 1999 by a systematic literature-review. DATA SOURCE: MEDLINE-research from 1997 to August 2003, research in the Cochrane-Library in August 2003, earlier reviews since 1997. STUDY SELECTION: Headings and abstracts were screened by one reviewer. All references dealing with multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) which covered topics of interest such as symptom-profiles, differential diagnostic procedures, etc...

OBJECTIVE: To validate a translated and adapted version of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) for use in French-speaking populations. METHODS: The FIQ was translated into French by 2 independent translators and then back-translated into English to assess the conceptual equivalence. The translated version was tested and adapted by an expert committee to obtain the Questionnaire de mesure d'Impact de la Fibromyalgie (QIF), the French version of the FIQ. We administered the QIF to 102 women with fibromyalgia (FM): 71 women who consulted once, and 31 women who were follow for 3 visits (D0, M1, and M3)...

Eight genotypes of Borrelia burgdorferi are known currently. In Slovakia (Carpathian Euroregion) the most frequent genotypes are B. garini, B. afzelii, as well as B. valaisiana and B. lusitaniae. Infestation of the vector Ixodes ricinus is 3-30%. The most frequent early skin manifestation is erythema migrans (60-70%). Borrelia burgdorferi is suggested to be the causative agent in sclerodermia circumscripta, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, maybe also in urticaria chronica, granuloma anulare, erythema anulare, erythema nodosum...

Antidepressive drugs influencing the serotonin metabolism have shown some efficacy in treatment of generalised pain syndrome. The aim of the present study was to observe the analgesic effect of citalopram < 1-[3-(dimetilamino)propil]-1-(p-florofenil)-5-ftal+ ++ánkarbonitin > in 20 non depressive patients with chronic pain syndrome (fibromyalgy and/or radicular pain). On the base of a short time (6 weeks) observation a limited clinical effect was observed, however, the Seropram seems to have some benefits in the treatment of chronic pain...
