Nowadays, hypertension represents an important health problem, particularly in developed countries. In some cases the standard therapeutic approaches are not able to reestablish the normal blood pressure values: this condition is called "resistant hypertension". However, a fraction of cases of resistant hypertension are actually due to poor adherence to the prescribed therapy. Therapeutic Drug Monitoring could represent a direct and useful tool to correctly identify non-compliant patients. Nevertheless, high throughput methods for the simultaneous monitoring of a wide panel of drugs in the same analysis are lacking and, furthermore, there is not a generally acknowledged "standard" matrix for this test (plasma or urine)...

Sodium hydroxide pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse under vacuum conditions was established and evaluated in this study. Compared to pretreatment under conventional moderate pressure conditions, only half of the total phenolic compounds and less than half of the formic acid were produced under vacuum conditions, while the yield of total fermentable sugar was significantly increased by 31.38%. This study introduces a novel competent dendritic copper oxide-platinum nanocatalyst (nano-Cu2O-Pt) immobilized onto a glassy carbon (GC) substrate for formic acid (FA) electrooxidation (FAO); the prime reaction in the anodic compartment of direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFCs). Canonical variational transition state theory rate calculations have been performed to assess the fate of methanediol in the troposphere. The calculations suggest that proton tunneling plays a very important role in the gas-phase decomposition of methanediol as it enhances the rate of the reaction by 1-9 orders of magnitude in the tropospherically relevant temperature range of 200-300 K. The effect of proton tunneling is greatest at 200 K; the rate constant is enhanced up to 9 orders of magnitude.
