OBJECTIVE: Bacteria involved in purulent tooth disease and the most effective antibiotics were investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Swab samples were taken from 126 rabbits with facial abscesses or purulent periapical inflammation during surgical treatment. Bacteriological examination and susceptibility testing were performed. RESULTS: A wide range of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria were detected. The most commonly isolated anaerobes were gram-negative rods (Prevotella sp...

A study of 340 necropsied dairy cattle from northern Bavaria resulted in 31 animals (9%) showing evidence of pyemic thromboembolism. The most frequent pathomorphologic lesions consisted in endocarditis valvularis thromboticans of the tricuspid and/or mitral valve (21), embolic pneumonia (26), nephritis (13) and renal infarction (12). The most common isolate found in bacteriologic culture was Arcanobacterium pyogenes in 26 of 31 cases, followed by Staphylococcus aureus (2), Mannheimia haemolytica (2) and Streptococcus bovis (1) in rare cases...

A guinea pig with multicentric lymphosarcoma and conjunctival manifestation is described. Primary clinical signs were bilateral infiltrative conjunctival masses. Antemortem diagnosis was based on the cytology of biopsies of conjunctival tissue, fine-needle aspirates of peripheral lymph nodes, and peripheral blood smears.

The present paper tried to find relations between specific anamnesis of wild raptors and blood chemistry values at their day of presentation. 60 (88%) of 68 presented birds of prey showed changes in their blood values. In most birds an increase of GOT, GPT and AP was seen. Some birds showed increases of uric acid, urea and changes in the relation of Ca and P as well. A comparison between Eurasian buzzards with fractures and some without clinical signs showed a significant increase of uric acid, urea, potassium and inorganic phosphorus in the group of fractured birds...

The effects of the herbicide atrazine (2-Chlor-4-ethyl-amino-6-isopropyl-amino-s-triazine) on the kidney of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were studied by exposing them to sublethal concentrations of 1.4 and 2.8 mg atrazine per liter of water for 96 h (acute exposure) respectively to 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 micrograms/L for a period of 28 days (chronic exposure). Alterations of the different components of renal corpuscles and of renal tubules, as well as an increase in cells with mitotic figures in renal hemopoietic interstitium were constant features at lower chronic (5, 10, 20, 40 micrograms/L) exposure; necrosis of endothelial cells and renal hemopoietic tissue were prominent at concentrations of 80 micrograms/L, and 1...
