Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a rapidly progressive necrotizing bacterial dermo-hypodermitis of the perineum and external genitalia. It represents a real medical and surgical emergency requiring multidisciplinary care. Our study was based on the retrospective analysis of 18 cases of FG, collected in the Department of General and Visceral Surgery of Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Monastir over an 18-year period extending from January 2000 to December 2018. Our series included 18 cases of FG collected over an 18-year period, an annual incidence of one case per year...

Intentional artificial rupture of the amniotic membranes during labour, called amniotomy or 'breaking of the water's, is one of the most commonly performed procedures in modern obstetric and midwifery practice. The primary aim of amniotomy is to speed up uterine contractions and therefore shorten the length of labour. However there are concerns regarding unintended adverse effects on the woman and baby. A prospective observational study was conducted to determine the effectiveness and safety of routine procedure of amniotomy to shorten the duration of labour (prolonged or not) in Mymensingh Medical College & Hospital, Mymensingh, Bangladesh from July 2011 to December 2011...

The aim of this study was evaluating the effects of vacuum on microstructure and biocompatibility of bovine decellularized pericardium. So the bovine pericardia were decellularized and then the vacuum was applied for two periods of time; 90 and 180 min. DNA, glucose amino glycan, collagen and elastin content assay, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Masson's trichrome stainings performed to evaluate microstructure of tissues. MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) test, subcutaneous implantation, and tensile test were used to assay biocompatibility and mechanical properties of decellularized tissues...

INTRODUCTION: Subgaleal abscess is a rare condition in which suppuration under the galea aponeurotica (epicranial aponeurosis) occurs. Diagnosis of subgaleal abscess is guided by high index of suspicion, imaging of the head by computed topography will confirm the diagnosis and detect osteomyelitis or intracranial extension. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We describe a case of extensive subgaleal abscess that presented as an infected scalp sebaceous cyst, in male diabetic patient, its management and the role of vaccum assisted closure (V...

The Odon Device™ has been described in the literature since 2013 and the World Health Organization supports its development through the Human Reproduction Program. This innovative device could be easier to use than usual instruments and could be an alternative to caesarean section during the second stage of labor, especially in countries where access to obstetric care is limited. The aim of the Odon Device™ is to position an air cuff over the fetal head, past its widest point (around the level of the fetal mouth anteriorly and the nape of the fetal neck posteriorly)...

PURPOSE: For permanent wound coverage of compound fractures, the wound surface should have 100% granulation tissue without any discharge or necrotic slough. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a well known modality in the management of open fractures, and post-operative wound problems. This study was conducted to compare the outcome of NPWT and traditional dressing in wound healing of open fractures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective study of 100 cases was conducted to compare the wound healing outcomes of open fracture following vacuum assisted closure (VAC) dressing (50 cases) and traditional wound dressing (50 cases)...

A novel and inexpensive fabrication method of multiferroic nanocomposite films via liquid-phase formation is demonstrated in this work. Well-aligned anodized TiO₂ nanotube arrays on a Ti substrate were used as the core template. The anodized TiO₂ nanotube arrays were then hydrothermally treated in Ba(OH)₂ aqueous solution to form BaTiO₃ (BTO) nanotube arrays. The average pore diameter and thickness of the BTO nanotube arrays obtained were approximately 50~70 nm and 2~4 μ m, respectively. The BTO nanotube arrays were then dip-coated with CoFe₂O₄ (CFO) sol with the assistance of vaccum impregnation equipment to enable the penetration of CFO sol into the tubular pores of the BTO nanotube arrays...

In this study, sunflower oil thermoxidation was evaluated using conventional process conditions (180 °C and atmospheric pressure) and vacuum technology conditions (130 °C and 0,1 bar). Traditional thermoxidation lasted 20 h while vaccum thermoxidation was completed after 56 h. Total polar compounds reached 23 and 7,1 % at the end of atmospheric and vacuum thermoxidation respectively, while polymers content was 9,3 and 2,2 % for each oil...

In the past, the pretreatment and indium extracting were conducted in independent disposal system to recycle indium from waste liquid crystal display (LCD), which make the recycling process inefficient and costly. In this study, an efficient and environmental friendly indium recycling process was proposed by an in-situ reaction process. The carbon residue generated in the pretreatment stage (organic removing stage) was used as the reductant to extract indium in the same reaction system. Comparison results indicated that the reaction effects of pyrolytic carbon were much better than coke since the structure of pyrolytic carbon is porous which would make the reactants contact better, and promote the reaction efficiency...

Vaccum-ultraviolet (VUV) is effective for elimination of organic contaminants in aqueous environment and degradation of carbamazepine (CBZ) by VUV irradiation was systematically investigated in this study. A dynamic kinetic model was developed to simulate the destruction of CBZ that is mainly initiated by hydroxyl radicals (HO). The second-order rate constant of the reaction between CBZ and HO was determined to be 1.4 × 109 M-1 s-1 . Effect of initial CBZ concentration, VUV irradiation intensity and natural organic matter (NOM) were further investigated in several batch experiments...

Spiders are an abundant and successful group of natural predators that are considered efficient in the biocontrol of the major insect pests in agroecosystems. Spider diversity in different stages of the rice crop growth from eastern Uruguay was analysed. Field study was developed on six rice farms with rotation system with pasture, installed during intercropping stage as cover crop. The electronic structure of semiconducting carbon nanotubes selected through polymer functionalization is routinely verified by measuring the spectral van Hove singularity signature under ultraclean vacuum conditions. Interpreting the effect of unperturbed polymer adsorption on the nanotube energetic bands in solvent media is experimentally challenging owing to solvent molecular crowding around the hybrid complex. Here, a liquid-based scanning tunneling microscope and spectroscope operating in a noise-free laboratory is used to resolve the polymer-semiconducting carbon-nanotube-underlying graphene heterostructure in the presence of encompassing solvent molecules...

A well-defined silica-supported molybdenum dioxo species, ([triple bond, length as m-dash]SiO)2Mo(O)2, is prepared by grafting Mo(O)2[OSi(OtBu)3]2 on partially dehydroxylated silica SiO2-700, followed by thermal treatment under high-vaccum and calcination. Activated by an organosilicon agent the resulting material is active for olefin metathesis at 30 °C.
