The quality of maternity care in the United States is variable, and access to care is tenuous for rural residents, low-income individuals, and people of color. Without accessible, timely, and high-quality care, certain clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of individuals may render them more vulnerable to poor birth outcomes. However, risk factors for poor birth outcomes do not occur in a vaccum; rather, health care financing, delivery, and organization as well as the policy environment shape the context in which patients seek and receive maternity care...

A vesicocutaneous fistula is an abnormal communication from the bladder to the skin (Pritts et al, 2001). Recently, wound vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) has been used to facilitate fistula closure. There are no reports of using VAC to help fistula closure in the pediatric population. We present a case of an adolescent patient who develops a vesicocutaneous fistula after bladder augment cystoplasty and was treated with VAC only.

The interface between organic semiconductor and graphene electrode, especially the structure of the first few molecular layers at the interface, is crucial for the device properties such as the charge transport in organic field effect transistors. In this work, we have used scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate the poly (3-octyl-thiophene) (P3OT)-graphene interface. Our results reveal the dynamic assembling of P3OT on single layer graphene. As on other substrates the epitaxial effect plays a role in determining the orientation of the P3OT assembling, however, the inter-thiophene distance along the backbone is consistent with that optimized in vaccum, no compression was observed...

It is of great importance to investigate the extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in plant root apoplast solution for elucidating the mechanisms underlying root absorption and translocation of PAHs and their control. However, little information is available on the extraction of plant root apoplast solution to date. In this study, wheat was employed and phenanthrene was used as the representative of PAHs. Phenanthrene extracted from wheat root apoplast solution increased with increasing vaccum degree, vacuum time, centrifugal speed and centrifugal time...

In order to study the discharge process of vacuum arc ion source, make a detail description of the discharge plasma, and lay the foundation for further research on ion source, atomic emission spectrometry was used to diagnose the parameters of plasma produced by vaccum arc ion source. In the present paper, two kinds of analysis method for the emission spectra data collected by a spectrometer were developed. Those were based in the stark broadening of spectral lines and Saba-Boltzmann equation. Using those two methods, the electron temperature, electron number density and the ion temperature of the plasma can be determined...

BACKGROUND: Epidural intracranial hematoma is one of the most common complications of surgeries for intracranial tumors. The non-regional epidural hematoma is related to severe fluctuation of the intracranial pressure during the operation. The traditional management of hematoma evacuation through craniotomy is time-consuming and may aggravate intracranial pressure imbalance, which causes further complications. We designed a method using vaccum epidural drainage system, and tried to evaluate advantage and the disadvantage of this new technique...
