Pus discharge containing black granular materials (1-2 mm in diameter) was found in the abdominal skin of a 13-year-old sterilized female cat. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a large intra-abdominal mass with abundant blood flow beneath the skin lesion. Laparotomy revealed a large mass that adhered to the spleen and left kidney. Similar small lesions were found in the abdominal wall and mesentery. The masses were surgically removed along with the spleen and kidney. Histopathologically, the mass lesions consisted of granulomas with lesional pigmented fungi, and the cat was diagnosed with phaeohyphomycosis...

Normal canine kidneys are relatively homogeneous soft tissue attenuating structures on nonenhanced CT images. However, visible differences in attenuation between the renal crest and medulla are occasionally observed. This finding and its potential clinical implications have not been previously investigated. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of renal crest hyperattenuation (RCH) and investigate possible associations with signalment and laboratory parameters. Abdominal CT studies from 100 dogs, with biochemistry and urinalysis data obtained within 48 h before the CT acquisition, were categorized by two radiologists into those with and without visible RCH...

Renal diseases in dogs can be diagnosed effectively using B-mode ultrasound. Point shear wave elastography (pSWE) has demonstrated usefulness in diagnosing renal diseases in human medicine. However, its application in veterinary medicine is in its nascent stage. It was hypothesized that establishing pSWE reference values in nonazotemic dogs would prove valuable in differentiating renal diseases. In light of this, a single-center, quantitative study with an objective to normalize B-mode ultrasound parameters and pSWE values of the kidney in nonazotemic dogs was conducted...

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is an increasingly used alternative treatment option for nonresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in people. Comparatively, the publication of SBRT of dogs with HCC is limited. The objective of this retrospective, descriptive case series was to evaluate the clinical outcomes and toxicity data of SBRT in dogs with HCC and imaging-documented primary liver tumors using volumetric-modulated arc therapy delivery at two private institutions. Medical records of 14 dogs treated between 2018 and 2023 were reviewed...

Renomegaly has been reported in dogs with congenital portosystemic shunts (PSS). However, no study has objectively evaluated the degree of renomegaly in dogs with different types of PSS. The purpose of this retrospective, analytical, cross-sectional study was to determine kidney size (renal length-to-L2 vertebral body ratio; RL/L2 ratio) using CT in dogs with different types of PSS and correlate with clinical information. A medical record search for dogs with a PSS diagnosed using CT between 2016 and 2020 was conducted...
