The aim of this study was to compare the visual outcomes, intraocular pressure (IOP), and endothelial cell loss caused by trabeculectomy (TRAB) and Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation in patients who had previously undergone penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). The data from all patients who underwent surgical treatment of glaucoma after PKP were reviewed at the Cornea Department of Haydarpasa Numune Education and Research Hospital. Eighteen patients who had undergone surgical treatment of glaucoma after PKP were included in this retrospective study...

PURPOSE: to quantify the inter-test variability (dB) for the Optopol PTS automated perimeter, Glaucoma Fast threshold program. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A prospective study was performed on 166 glaucomatous patients and a control group of 30 normal subjects, tested by complete ophthalmological exam and automated perimetry (Optopol PTS-910). The visual field was tested weekly for 4 consecutive weeks. The visual field defects were classified according to the Aulhorn-Karmeyer descriptive scale...

We sought to determine the effectiveness of trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C (MMC) in neovascular glaucoma (NVG) patients. Trabeculectomy with MMC in NVG patients is a method that has high rate of short-term success.

Galucoma may be one of a set of "baropathic" disorders including tinnitus, Meniere's disease, arthritis and bursitis caused by transport dysfunction in the "tissue membranes" of the set of closed "tissue cells" envisioned by The Tissue Cell Theory of Metazoa and which result, in turn, from prostaglandin disturbances induced by primary or secondary essential fatty acid deficiencies possibly coupled with immunopathic effects.

Primary open-angle galucoma (POAG) patients are more responsive to glucocorticoids, and have increased prevalences of the histocompatibility antigens HLA-B7 and HLA-B12. We report herein a comparison of in vitro cellular responsiveness to glucocorticoids and HLA classification for 25 POAG patients, and 25 individuals who respond to topical dexamethasone with intraocular pressure is greater than 31 mm. HG. (GG responders). Within both the POAG and GG groups, significantly greater responsiveness to prednisolone occurs in patients with HLA-B12 antigen...

Between intraocular pressure (I.O.P.) and the metabolic carbohydrate disturbance is a relationship: 1. diabetics frequently show primary open angle-galucoma; 2. as the diabetic retinopathy progresses towards stage III (Pr.), IOP decreases; 3. as diabetics exhibit dilatation of veins, increased blood viscosity, arteriolar narrowing and increased I.O.P. central retinal vessel disease with hemorrhages occurs redily; 4. capillary hemorrhages, periapaillary and macular oedema may be caused by increased oncotic pressure with acidosis of the blood; hyperglycemia with ketosis goes together with decreased I...
