Co2 Oridion

Thomas J Ebert, Jutta Novalija, Toni D Uhrich, Jill A Barney
BACKGROUND: Effective O2 delivery and accurate end-tidal CO2 (ETCO2) sampling are essential features of nasal cannulae (NCs) in patients with compromised respiratory status. We studied 4 NC designs: bifurcated nasal prongs (NPs) with O2 delivery and CO2 sensing in both NPs (Hudson), separate O2/CO2 NPs (Salter), and CO2 sensing in NPs with cloud O2 delivery outside the NPs via multi vents (Oridion) and dual vents (Medline). We hypothesized that design differences between NCs would influence O2 delivery and ETCO2 detection...

In critically ill intubated patients, assessment of adequacy of ventilation relies on measuring partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2), which requires invasive arterial blood gas analysis. Alternative noninvasive technologies include transcutaneous CO2 (tPCO2) and end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) monitoring. We evaluated accuracy of tPCO2 and EtCO2 monitoring in a porcine model of acute lung injury (ALI) due to smoke inhalation and burns. Eight anesthetized Yorkshire pigs underwent mechanical ventilation, wood-bark smoke inhalation injury, and 40% total body surface area thermal injury...

BACKGROUND: The objective was to determine the repeatability and stability of capnography interfaced with human exposure facility. METHODS: Capnographic wave signals were obtained from five healthy volunteers exposed to particle-free, filtered air during two consecutive 5 min intervals, 10 min apart, within the open and then the sealed and operational human exposure facility (HEF). Using a customized setup comprised of the Oridion Microcap portable capnograph, DA converter and AD card, the signal was acquired and saved as an ASCII file for subsequent processing...
