BACKGROUND: Denture-induced oral Lesions (DIOLs) often manifests shortly after the placement or adjustment of new or realigned dentures, frequently resulting in severe pain and discomfort. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to classify DIOLs placing a particular emphasis on assessing the associated pain. METHODS: A prospective case study was conducted involving 126 patients who were fitted with a total of 193 dentures of various types at the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine...

Sandblasting is a standard procedure used for treating dental implant (DI) surfaces to enhance the osseointegration with known clinical success. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes of DIs with external hexagon connections and a surface sandblasted with calcium phosphate. Two hundred and seventy-five Mg-osseous™ (Mozo-Grau™) screw DIs were placed in 86 patients using a two-stage surgical technique and conventional loading protocol (at three months). Dental implants and prosthetic clinical findings were evaluated during a 17-year follow up...

Gingival mask is a copy of the peri-implant tissue, which plays an important role in the fabrication of an optimal restoration. Losing the gingival mask is a clinical problem that complicates the process of restoration fabrication. Herein, a simple precise technique is described step by step to solve this problem in the patient with CAD/CAM milled bar and ball attachment treatment plan for a maxillary and a mandibular implant-supported overdenture, without the need to repeat the entire clinical and laboratory procedures...

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the halitosis and pain threshold of the peri-implant soft tissues in individuals rehabilitated with implant-supported prostheses. Forty-eight subjects were divided into four groups (n = 12) according to their prosthetic rehabilitation: single-tooth fixed prosthesis, multi-tooth fixed prosthesis, overdentures, and the Brånemark protocol. Halitosis was measured using a halimeter, whereas the pain threshold was measured using Von Frey monofilaments. Measurements were taken before (t0) and 30 days after (t1) placement of healing caps, and at the time of (t2) and 30 days after (t3) prosthetic placement...

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the dental prosthetic rehabilitation (DPR) in patients after jaw reconstruction with fibula free flap. Four databases were searched from January 2000 to January 2023. Of the 2507 studies identified, 36 observational studies were included. Cancer was the most common surgical indications for jawbone resection with 58.3% of cases followed by benign tumours which representing 24%. The DPR rate was estimated at 51.6% across the studies (ranging from 38% to 55% depending on the benign or malignant nature of the tumors)...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The 2-implant mandibular overdenture (2IMO) is a popular treatment for patients with mandibular edentulism. However, information on the influence of implant positions on crestal strain is lacking. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the crestal strain around 2 implants to support mandibular overdentures when placed at different positions. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Edentulous mandibles were 3-dimensionally (3D) designed separately with 2 holes for implant placement at similar distances of 5, 10, 15, and 20 mm from the midline, resulting in 4 study conditions...

PURPOSE: Single implant retained mandibular overdenture treatment has been shown to be a minimally invasive, satisfactory, and cost-effective option for edentulous individuals. However, the impact of implant diameter and length on stress distribution at the implant, bone, and other components in this treatment approach remains unclear. The purpose of this 3D finite element analysis was to evaluate the effect of implant length and diameter on equivalent von Mises stress and strain distribution in single implant retained overdentures at bone, implant, and prosthetic components...

Twelve patients presenting with an edentulous mandible were recruited from 9 dental offices (n=1~2 per office). Each patient received two to four implants in the mandible.
