Background and Objectives : Maintenance of a firm and long-term stable osseointegration is the primary goal of implant dentistry. Time is used to define implant failure characteristics. Early implant failure (EIF) occurs up to one year after loading. Recent studies indicated an association between proton pump inhibitors (PPI) therapy and failure of osseointegration. The present study assessed whether the use of PPIs is a risk factor to EIF. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study including 687 patients and 2971 dental implants...

Hypertension affects 1 in 3 Americans and results in nearly 900,000 inpatient admits annually due to ineffective management. As a primary factor in the development of strokes, hypertension management is essential. The approach to effectively manage hypertension should be done from a multipoint approach to ensure the specific elements that impede the effective management of hypertension within various patient populations are addressed accordingly, which includes, personal, physical, and health needs. The robust implementation of lifestyle modifications, medication therapy, and self-efficacy interventions can improve hypertension management by almost 37%...

BACKGROUND: Increased therapy time and task-specific practice can improve functional recovery post stroke. This observational study aimed to determine whether the clinical implementation of circuit training increases therapy time and improves function in stroke rehabilitation. METHODS: In a retrospective clinical audit, medical records of 110 people (mean age 78.7, standard deviation 13.0, 49.1% male, 57.3% severe stroke) admitted to a stroke inpatient rehabilitation ward were evaluated to determine the differences between pre (Individual Therapy (IT), n = 55) and post (Circuit Class Therapy (CCT), n = 55) service change implementation...

Acute focal bacterial nephritis (AFBN) is a radiologically diagnosed acute localized kidney infection that appears in the continuum between a perinephric abscess and renal abscess. We report an unusual case of AFBN presenting without pyuria or positive urine cultures. A 42-year-old woman with chronic lower back pain who regularly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was admitted to our hospital with right-sided abdominal distention, fever, chills, and pain extending from the right lower abdomen to the back since two days...

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death. The most common cardiovascular pathologies are thromboembolic diseases. Antithrombotic therapy prevents thrombus formation or dissolves that previously constituted. However, it presents a high rate of accidents such as gastric bleeding and cerebrovascular embolism. Plant foods and their secondary metabolites have been reported to regulate blood hemostasis. This review article aims to propose plant foods and their metabolites as adjuvant therapy for the management of thromboembolic diseases...

UNLABELLED: The significant prevalence of acute cerebral circulatory disorders, the complexity and persistence of disorders of the functions of the upper and lower extremities, which are accompanied by prolonged and persistent disability, is an important medical and social problem. OBJECTIVE: Development of optimized programs of medical rehabilitation in patients after acute cerebrovascular accident in the late recovery period. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 200 patients who suffered acute cerebral circulatory disorders, with increased muscle tone in the lower extremity by the type of spasticity in the late recovery period, who were divided into five groups comparable in clinical and functional characteristics and age: the 1st group ( n =40) - patients who, in addition to the standard complex of therapy and rehabilitation, the same in all five groups and including therapeutic physical culture, medical massage and kinesiotherapy, received low-frequency electrostatic massage, complex multimodal effects from the Alpha-capsule apparatus, training on a multifunctional biofeedback (BFB) platform and training of the stereotype of walking on to the track by the method of imposition; the 2nd group ( n =40) - patients who, in addition to the standard complex, received low-frequency electrostatic massage from the Khivamat apparatus and exposure to broadband modulation currents; the 3rd group ( n =40) - patients who, in addition to the standard complex, received a complex multimodal effect from the Alpha-capsule; the 4th group ( n =40) - patients who, in addition to the standard complex, received training on a multifunctional platform with barefoot and training of the stereotype of walking on the track by the method of imposition; the 5th group ( n =40) - patients who received only a standard complex of therapy and rehabilitation...

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effectiveness of social recovery (trip to the store by bus and making purchases) in elderly patients with stroke in the right middle cerebral artery undergoing a course of specialized trainings in a complex of functional spatially oriented rehabilitation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 44 patients with previous stroke (mean age 70.8±3.1 years) randomized into 2 equal groups: main group - basic standard of rehabilitation (exercises with instructor, mechanotherapeutic technique with cyclic simulators, massage of paretic limbs) and training of social adaptation in a complex of functional spatially oriented rehabilitation; control group - basic standard of rehabilitation alone...

INTRODUCTION: Carotid artery dissection is a rare but serious condition manifesting with signs and symptoms that closely overlap with other more benign medical diagnoses. This vascular injury, however, can result in debilitating sequelae, including thromboembolic cerebrovascular accidents. Cerebrovascular accidents have physical, cognitive and emotional effects. During rehabilitation, the main focus is placed on motor recovery, yet the patient's emotional state should also be considered. For this reason, validating robotic rehabilitation systems should not only focus on their effectiveness related to the physical recovery but also on the patient's emotional response. A case series study has been conducted with five stroke patients to assess their emotional response towards therapies using RobHand, a robotic hand rehabilitation platform...

Functional neurological symptom disorder (FND) remains a clinical challenge. It is one of the many mimics of cerebrovascular accidents, spinal cord disorders, and lower motor neuron disease. Patients often undergo an extensive workup to exclude other causes of neurological dysfunction before the diagnosis is made. FND is often associated with weakness and paralysis, yet we could not locate a case depicting symptoms severe enough to cause venous thromboembolism. We present a patient diagnosed with FND who subsequently developed deep vein thromboses (DVT) of the bilateral lower extremities...

Background  Synergy is an outcome of multiple muscles acting in a synchronized pattern, controlled by the central nervous system. After brain insult, a set of deviated movement pattern emerges in the affected limb. The methods to train synchronization of muscles may diminish the deviated movement augmenting neuromotor control. The purpose of this investigation was to develop a synergy-based motor therapy (SBMT) protocol for the paretic upper limb in poststroke subjects. Further, the feasibility and effectiveness of the program was evaluated...

[Purpose] An ankle disorder (foot drop) caused by common peroneal nerve palsy or cerebrovascular accident (stroke) interferes with patients' ability to walk and hinders in activities of daily living. A new robotic ankle, the Hybrid Assistive Limb, has been developed for the treatment of foot drop caused by common peroneal nerve palsy or sequelae of stroke. The purpose in this study was to report and examine the efficacy and feasibility of a case who was treated with voluntary ankle dorsiflexion training with the ankle Hybrid Assistive Limb...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Neurological conditions are a major cause of health morbidity that negatively impacts function and quality of life (QoL). Despite this burden, community services are disproportionally scarce. Student-led physiotherapy services (SLSs) are a model that can increase community access to health care while providing authentic clinical experiences for students. SLSs consistently demonstrate high client satisfaction; however, limited evaluation of the impact of this model on the client's clinical outcomes exists...
