CD26/Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) is a cell surface glycoprotein with numerous roles including glucose metabolism, immunomodulation, and tumorigenesis. CD26/DPPIV is well recognized in diabetes, with DPPIV inhibitors being a class of oral hypoglycemic drugs called gliptins that are commonly used to treat type two diabetes mellitus. Recent work also indicated a potential role for CD26 in infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and immune-mediated disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and graft-versus-host disease...

STUDY QUESTION: Can human theca cells (TCs) be differentiated in vitro? SUMMARY ANSWER: It is possible to differentiate human TCs in vitro using a medium supplemented with growth factors and hormones. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: There are very few studies on the origin of TCs in mammalian ovaries. Precursor TCs have been described in neonatal mice ovaries, which can differentiate into TCs under the influence of factors from oocytes and granulosa cells (GCs)...

Most epithelial tumors recruit fibroblasts and other nonmalignant cells and activate them into cancer-associated fibroblasts. This often leads to overexpression of the membrane serine protease fibroblast-activating protein (FAP). It has already been shown that DOTA-bearing FAP inhibitors (FAPIs) generate high-contrast images with PET/CT scans. Since SPECT is a lower-cost and more widely available alternative to PET, 99m Tc-labeled FAPIs represent attractive tracers for imaging applications in a larger number of patients...

Aim: The aim of this study was to reveal the diagnostic and prognostic significance of serum CD26 level in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma women in China. Methods: There were 229 high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma women and 365 controls. Baseline serum CD26 level was measured using ELISA. A 36-month post-operation follow-up was performed. Results: Baseline serum CD26 level ≤601.5 pg/ml was associated with the increased risk of ovarian carcinoma (OR: 1.67; 95% CI: 1.20-2.32). Baseline serum level of CD26 ≤589...

Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV; also known as cluster of differentiation 26) and the surface-expressed protease, seprase [also known as fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAPα)], are able to degrade the extracellular matrix; therefore, they are involved in malignant cell invasion and metastasis. However, the prognostic implications of their overexpression in carcinomas remain controversial. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression and potential prognostic effects of DPPIV and seprase in cases of ovarian carcinoma...
