The increasing and diversified use of rare earth elements (REE) is considered a potential source of pollution of environmental media including soils. This work documents critically overview data on the occurrence of REE in the fruiting bodies of wild and farmed species of edible and medicinal mushrooms, as this was identified as the largest published dataset of REE occurrence in foodstuff. Most of the literature reported occurrences of cerium (Ce) and lanthanum (La), but a number of studies lacked data on all lanthanides...

This work focuses on the structural, morphological, optical, photocatalytic, antibacterial properties of pure CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and graphene oxide (GO) based CeO2 nanocomposites (GO-1/CeO2 , GO-5/CeO2 , GO-10/CeO2 , GO-15/CeO2 ), synthesized using the sol-gel auto-combustion and subsequent sonication method, respectively. The single-phase cubic structure of CeO2 NPs was confirmed by Rietveld refined XRD, HRTEM, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The average crystallite size was calculated using Debye Scherrer formula and found to increase from 20 to 25 nm for CeO2 to GO-15/CeO2 samples, respectively...

Cerium oxide powders are widely used and are of fundamental importance in catalytic pollution control and energy production due to the unique chemical properties of CeO2 . Processing steps involved in catalyst preparation, such as high-temperature calcination or mechanical milling processes, can alter the morphological and chemical properties of ceria, heavily affecting its final properties. Here, we focus on the tuning of CeO2 nanopowder properties by mild- and high-energy milling processes, as the mechanochemical synthesis is gaining increasing attention as a green synthesis method for catalyst production...

Ligand-protected gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) have become promising nanomaterials in fluorescence (FL) methods for mercury ions (Hg2+ ) monitoring, but low FL efficiency hinders their widespread application. Herein, AuNCs/cerium-based metal-organic frameworks (AuNCs/Ce-MOFs) were prepared by loading 6-aza-2-thiothymine-protected AuNCs (ATT-AuNCs) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect on the surface of Ce-MOFs by electrostatic attraction. This strategy improved the FL intensity of AuNCs through two aspects: (i) the AIE effect of ATT-AuNCs and (ii) the confinement effect of Ce-MOFs, which improved the restriction of intramolecular motion (RIM) of ATT-AuNCs...

The development of biodegradable active packaging films with hydrophobic characteristics is vital for extending the shelf life of food and reducing the reliance on petroleum-based plastics. In this study, novel hydrophobic cerium-based metal-organic framework (Ce-MOF) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized. The Ce-MOF nanoparticles were then incorporated into the cassava starch matrix at varying concentrations (0.5 %, 1.5 %, 3 %, and 4 % w/w of total solid) to fabricate cassava-based active packaging films via the solution casting technique...

Uracil-thymine dehydrogenase (UTDH), which catalyzes the irreversible oxidation of uracil to barbituric acid in oxidative pyrimidine metabolism, was purified from Rhodococcus erythropolis JCM 3132. The finding of unusual stabilizing conditions (pH 11, in the presence of NADP+ or NADPH) enabled the enzyme purification. The purified enzyme was a heteromer consisting of three different subunits. The enzyme catalyzed oxidation of uracil to barbituric acid with artificial electron acceptors such as methylene blue, phenazine methosulfate, benzoquinone, and α-naphthoquinone; however, NAD+ , NADP+ , flavin adenine dinucleotide, and flavin mononucleotide did not serve as electron acceptors...

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are well recognized for playing a dual role, since they can be either deleterious or beneficial to biological systems. An imbalance between ROS production and elimination is termed oxidative stress, a critical factor and common denominator of many chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, neurological disorders (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases), and other disorders. To counteract the harmful effects of ROS, organisms have evolved a complex, three-line antioxidant defense system...

To enhance the protective ability of copper crystallizers and extend their service life, this study explores the use of double pulse co-deposition under a sulfamic acid system to create protective coatings such as Co-Ni. The hardness test and friction wear analysis compare Co-Ni, Co-Ni-Ce, and Co-Ni-Ce/TiC coatings, revealing that the Co-Ni-Ce/TiC coating exhibits the most outstanding protective performance. SEM and XRD techniques are employed to characterize the three protective coatings, demonstrating that the incorporation of rare-earth cerium and nanoparticles improves the coating morphology and modifies their crystalline phase structure...

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeONPs) exhibiting antioxidant properties are investigated as potential tools for neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we synthesized polyacrylic acid conjugated cerium oxide (CeO) nanoparticles, and further to enhance their neuroprotective effect, Eu3+ was substituted at different concentrations (5, 10, 15 and 20 mol%) to the CeO, which can also impart fluorescence to the system. CeONPs and Eu-CeONPs in the size range of 15-30 nm were stable at room temperature. The X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed the chemical state of Eu and Ce components, and we could conclude that all Eu3+ detected on the surface is well integrated into the cerium oxide lattice...

Current treatment modalities for RA have significant limitations, including poor bioavailability, severe side effects, and inadequate targeting of inflamed joints. Electron hole transfer facilitation and controllable recombination were altered by g-C3 N4 heterojunction with cerium tungstate. Ce2 (WO4 )3 possessed a larger band gap. As g-C3 N4 was assisted, the band gap was reduced which facilitates Ce2 (WO4 )3 to utilize more visible light...

Recent studies suggest that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) contribute to medulloblastoma (MB) formation and progression. We have identified an lncRNA, lnc-HLX-2-7, as a potential therapeutic target in group 3 (G3) MBs. lnc-HLX-2-7 RNA specifically accumulates in the promoter region of HLX, a sense-overlapping gene of lnc-HLX-2-7, which activates HLX expression by recruiting multiple factors, including enhancer elements. RNA sequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation reveal that HLX binds to and activates the promoters of several oncogenes, including TBX2, LIN9, HOXM1, and MYC...
