BACKGROUND: Testicular and epididymal sperm extraction surgery is a frequent procedure. However, to date, there has been no French consensus on the technique to be preferred in the various situations of male infertility and on the best way to perform them. We therefore decided to proceed with a formalized expert consensus, using the method recommended by the French National Authority for Health. The aim was to provide the French urology community with practical advice on how best to perform these procedures...

Aim To determine the effect of red algae extract on the gene expression of catalase and caspase-3 in testicules of rats induced by boric acid (BA). Methods This is experimental research with post-test control group design. Twenty four healthy male Wistar rats were divided into four treatment groups: a healthy group, negative control group, two treatment groups with red algae extract 400mg/kgBW/day (T1) and red algae extract 800mg/kgBW/day (T2). Each group was treated with BA 500mg/kgBW/day for 14 days, whereas the healthy group did not receive BA...

Testis tumors are uncommon in oncology, and testicular metastasis from distant solid tumors are even rarer. We present two cases encountered in our department of pathology in CHU de Rennes, France. Moreover, we collected all reported cases in the Medline/PubMed databases of non-hematopoietic secondary testis tumors in adults, excluding autopsy studies, to propose an integrative study on this topic. In total, we report 98 cases of secondary testis lesions to prostate (n=38, 38.77 %), colorectal (n=19, 19...

OBJECTIVE: Updated Recommendations for the management of testicular germ cell cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Comprehensive review of the literature on PubMed since 2020 concerning the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of testicular germ cell cancer (TGCT), and the safety of treatments. The level of evidence of the references was evaluated. RESULTS: The initial work-up for patients with testicular germ cell cancer is based on a clinical examination, biochemical (AFP, total hCG and LDH serum markers) and radiological assessment (scrotal ultrasound and thoracic-abdominal-pelvic [TAP] CT)...

BACKGROUND: Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a locally infiltrative mesenchymal tumour that most commonly affects the pelvis and/or perineum in adult women. AAM is very rare in males, especially in infancy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-month-old fulani (African) male infant was referred to our department for a large painless mass in the right testicule. The mass was detected during the neonatal period and gradually increased in size. Ultrasound examination revealed a large heterogeneous lesion; computed tomography results led to the conclusion that the mass was a mesenteric hernia...

The onset of sudden and intense scrotal pain exposes to several problems when it occurs in a young man in Africa. Among the possible etiologies, testicular torsion is the surgical emergency to rule out, because beyond 6 hours of evolution the functional prognosis of the testicle is concerned. The septic evolution towards a purulent melting, in case of exceeded torsion, is also possible. Of slightly lower incidence than in Western countries, lack of awareness of this pathology by local health actors, the precariousness or health isolation of certain populations in certain under-medicalized regions, contribute to diagnostic and therapeutic delays...

Fertility preservation in prepubertal boys is a matter that has been gaining ground fast during the past 20 years. As the life expectancy for childhood cancer survivors continues to increase (5-year survival rate>80%), and as the risk of permanent infertility in adulthood is still high with current treatment options, offering a testicular biopsy to cryopreserve immature testicular tissue (ITT) containing spermatogonial stem cells is now recommended as an experimental option for fertility preservation. Transplantation of cryopreserved testicular prepubertal tissue fragments back to the cured patient appears to be one of the most feasible and promising techniques for fertility restoration...

INTRODUCTION: Fertility preservation is essential before cancer treatment. When ejaculated sperm preservation is not possible, testicular tissue can be surgically collected by Onco-TESE technic (Oncological Testicular Sperm Extraction) to isolate sperm. We report on our experience with Onco-TESE in testicular cancer patients at the Rouen University Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Retrospective study including all pubescent men, treated for testicular cancer, uni- or bilateral, before any carcinological therapy, who have undergone Onco-TESE at the Rouen University Hospital...

AIM: The objective of this study is to present the history of cancers of the external genital organs of male in Hérault using data from the Hérault tumor register (RTH) over a period of 30 years. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Using the RTH database, we studied the development of testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) and penile cancer (PC) over 30 years, from 1987 to 2016. We analyzed the incidence and mortality data for these tumors. We compared these results to French, European and global data...

Leydig cell tumor (LCT) is a rare testicular tumor with a low incidence accounting 3% of all testicule neoplasms. Due to its rarity, the natural history of LCT is poorly understood. Patients can present with atypical symptoms and endocrine disorders. The diagnosis of LCT is based on histological and immunohistochemical examination. We report a new case of leydig cell tumor in a 61-year-old man presenting with a left testis hydrocele. The patient underwent a left orchidectomy and the diagnosis of LCT was established...

Propolis is a potent antioxidant and a free radical scavenger. The present study aimed to investigate protective effects of propolis extract on cadmium-induced testicular damage, apoptosis, HIF-1α expression and toxicity in rat's testis tissue. A total of 32 male rats were equally divided into four study groups namely, control, Cd (1mg/kg/day), Cd+propolis (50mg/kg/day) and propolis. The rats were decapitated under ketamine anesthesia and their testes tissues were removed. Serum testosterone, tissue malondialdehyde and HIF-1α levels, HIF-1α expression, apoptosis and histopathological damage scores were then compared...

We look at the epidemiology, the physiology and the treatment of this extremely rare infection.

One breed with less seasonal breeding and high fertility, D'Man and one with less fertility and marked seasonal variation in breeding behaviour, Bnihsen. Four animals in each genotype were hemicastrated and 9 mo later castrated, to examine the effect of hormonal control on the hypothalamo-hypophyseal feedback system. Nine months after hemicastration the D'Man breed showed higher gonadotrophine values (LH, FSH)...

The scrotum is frequently imaged on an emergent basis. The differential diagnosis of the acute scrotum can be divided into four categories-torsion, trauma, tumor, and "testiculitis" (epididymo-orchitis). Although testicular neoplasms are not imaged emergently, 15% are detected incidentally when performing an emergent scrotal ultrasound. Therefore, the emergent sonographic examination of the testicles should include a thorough search for malignancy. Images demonstrating the sonographic and color Doppler appearances of each of the "four T's" will be reviewed...
