BACKGROUND: Isolated intestinal injury after blunt abdominal trauma is a rare challenging clinical entity. Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) are considered more prone to spontaneous intestinal perforation rather than normal population However, spontaneous intestinal perforation remains rare. In the literature, there are few cases reports discussing intestinal perforation after blunt abdominal trauma in CD patients. OBJECTIVE: Herein, we report a young male patient with CD who had missed traumatic intestinal perforation along with literature review of similar cases...

BACKGROUND: Serum lipid levels seem to be abnormal in Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the specific manifestation of abnormal serum lipid levels in IBD are heterogeneous among studies and have not been sufficiently determined yet. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched. Serum lipid levels were compared between IBD patients and Health individuals, Crohn's (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), active and inactive, mild and non-mild patients, respectively...

Cronh's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC) are diseases with unknown etiologies that cause ongoing inflammation in the gastrointestinal system. Chron's disease causes immunological dysregulation, and UC causes intestinal harm due to immune reactions. According to our study, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has many benefits in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by restoring intestinal homeostasis and reducing clinical symptoms. In mildly symptomatic patients with UC, an FMT treatment combined with an anti-inflammatory diet can produce remission, which would then be followed by a diet that maintained the anti-inflammatory effects...

Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins (IMHMV) is a rare and poorly understood disease. It is characterized by non-thrombotic and non-inflammatory occlusion of the mesenteric veins secondary to intimal smooth muscle hyperplasia. The etiology of IMHMV is unknown, and its clinical presentations include abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, and weight loss. IMHMV is commonly mistaken for inflammatory bowel disease because of the similarity in symptoms and endoscopic findings. Herein, we report the case of a 64-year-old man with IMHMV and present an overview of all reported cases of IMHMV...

Peritoneal pseudocysts (PPs) in patients who are diagnosed with Crohn's disease (CD), is a rarely diagnosed entity with unknown epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis. We present the case of a 30-year old male with known CD who presented with an acute abdomen because of a PP. PPs are developed as a complication caused in patients, suffering from mainly thee conditions. Firstly, PPs appear in patients with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), they are also developed in patients with peritoneal trauma and finally in CD patients...

Tumor necrosis factor-α is an important pro-inflammatory cytokine having a key role in hosts defensive process of immune systems and its over expression led to a diverse range of inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Cronh's disease, psoriasis, etc. This paper describes our medicinal chemistry efforts on imidazo[1,2-b]pyridazine scaffold: design, synthesis and biological evaluation. By the introducing sulfonamide functionality at 3 positions and substituting 6 positions with (hetero)-aryl groups', a small library of compounds was prepared...

BACKGROUND: Evidence has shown a link between allergic disease and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs). We investigated food allergy in Iranian pediatric IBD patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a consecutive sample of children with newly diagnosed IBD referring to Mofid Children's University Hospital in Tehran (Iran) between November 2013 and March 2015. Data on age, gender, history of cow's milk allergy (CMA), IBD type, routine laboratory tests, and colonoscopic and histopathological findings were gathered...

Dietary polyphenols present in Punica granatum (pomegranate), such as ellagitannins and ellagic acid (EA) have shown to exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of a dietary EA-enriched pomegranate extract (PE) in a murine chronic model of Cronh's disease (CD). Colonic injury was induced by intracolonic instillation of trinitrobenzensulfonic acid (TNBS). Rats were fed with different diets during 30 days before TNBS instillation and 2 weeks before killing: (i) standard, (ii) PE 250 mg/kg/day, (iii) PE 500 mg/kg/day, (iv) EA 10 mg/kg/day and (v) EA 10 mg/kg/day enriched-PE 250 mg/kg/day...

Erythema nodosum is the most common form of septal panniculitis and the most frequent skin manifestation associated with inflammatory bowel disease, affecting up to 15% of Crohn's disease patients. Since the development of erythema nodosum is closely related with a variety of disorders and condition, it can serve as an important early sign of systemic disease. Here, we present the occurrence of erythema nodosum as an early sign of Cronh's disease in a 16-year-old woman.

Capsule endoscopy (CE) offers state-of-the-art imaging of the small bowel. In Crohn's disease its clinical role is still uncertain. This report analyses the usefulness of CE in patients with suspected Cronh's disease, in patients with established Crohn's disease (when assessing severity, occult gastrointestinal bleeding and/or as a guide to therapy), in patients with inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU), and in individuals with ulcerative colitis. The first item in this group is the most important although there is no strong evidence to establish the position of CE in the diagnostic workup...

Cytogenetical study ofcolorectal polyps of different histological structures from 54 patients has been carried out. Domination of diploid karyotypes was shown. Abnormal karyotypes were found in 17 (31,5%) polyps: the most frequent anomalies were in adenoma while in hamartomatous polyps they were absent. The typical features of the karyotypes were numeric changes, such as additional copies of chromosomes 13, 7, 20, 18, 16 in some combinations. The polyps with high-grade dysplasia in all cases had abnormal karyotypes...

A psoas abscess (PA) is a rare clinical entity but is potentially serious condition which presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The diagnosis is frequently delayed due to its variable and nonspecific features and occult clinical course. The delay in diagnosis and treatment of PA is the major poor prognostic factor. We describe herein a case of the sterile psoas abscess complicating Cronh's disease which presented as hip flexion contracture. A 29-year-old man, at remission stage of CD involving ileocolic segment, was admitted due to pain from hip contracture...

The paper deals with the capacities of X-ray diagnosis of Cronh's disease involving the small bowel, using the barium contract agent Entero-VU specially designed to examine the bowel. It describes 3 cases of Crohn's disease presented by its different stages and localization in the small bowel. In the author's opinion, the barium contrast agent Entero-VU designed to examine the small bowel has two basic advantages: it is easy-to-use and highly diagnostically effective.

9 patients with acute exacerbations of Crohn's disease were treated over 2.5 months or longer with ornidazole (nitroimidazole). While 3 patients showed no response at all to 5 cycles of ornidazole treatment, 6 patients improved markedly within 2-3 months. In all but 1 patient, the improvement lasted during long-term therapy (average 9 months). Therapy was discontinued in 5 of these patients after 2.5-14 months; 2 patients had severe recurrences within 2-10 weeks, while 3 patients remained well during the follow-up (average 4...
