Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the limbs is a common disease and causes significant morbidity and mortality. It is frequently the prelude to pulmonary embolism (PE), it can recur in 30% of patients and in 25-40% of cases they can develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), with a significant impact in functional status and quality of life. This document contains the recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of acute DVT from the Thromboembolic Disease group of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI)...

Mesenteric vein thrombosis (MVT) is a rare condition that can present acutely, subacutely, or chronically. MVT can be isolated or within a splanchnic thrombosis (spleno-porto-mesenteric). Symptomatic cases usually present as nonspecific abdominal pain, with or without signs of intestinal ischemia, and the diagnosis is usually made by imaging test (abdominal CT or MRI) in patients with high clinical suspicion. An early clinical-surgical approach is recommended to screen those patients with warning signs and who benefit from an exploratory laparotomy in addition to anticoagulant treatment, which is the cornerstone of medical treatment...

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: A case series of ten patients that received protocolized care for SARS-CoV-2 infection and developed severe gastrointestinal complications, is presented. The aim of our study was to contribute to the ongoing discussion regarding gastrointestinal complications related to SARS-CoV-2 infection. After reviewing the current literature, ours appears to be the first detailed case series on the topic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective filtered search of all patients admitted to our hospital for SARS-CoV-2 infection, who developed severe gastrointestinal complications, was performed...

UNLABELLED: İNTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Porta-mesenteric vein thrombosis (PMVT) is a rare but fatal complication in patients who are undergoing bariatric surgery. In this report, we present a rare case of a PMVT after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). CASE PRESENTATION: A 52-year-old male patient with a body mass index of 42 kg/m2 was admitted to our clinic for morbid obesity. Standart LSG was performed with 5 trocar technique. 15 days after LSG, the patient admitted to the emergency department with complaints of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting...

Small bowel varices are usually associated with portal hypertension. Ectopic varices caused by isolated chronic superior mesenteric vein thrombosis are exceedingly rare. Gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to these represents a diagnostic challenge, given the low prevalence and clinical suspicion, and therapeutic dilemma due to the limited scientific evidence available regarding treatment options. We present the case of a 56-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding from jejunal varices due to chronic superior mesenteric vein thrombosis, associated with thrombophilia; diagnosed by video capsule endoscopic (VCE) and computed tomography enterography (CTE), with no possibility of endoscopic or radiological management given the extensive involvement, who underwent successful surgery...

The present document is the report of a case of a very rare clinical entity, which presents with acute multiorganic failure after a thrombotic storm related to antiphospholipid antibodies, the so-called catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome, which began as a recurrent picture of mesenteric thrombosis, with a previous history of venous insufficiency and distal ulcers probably associated with an unidentified antiphospholipid; deserving management in intensive care and the consultation by the world expert, Dr...

Mesenteric venous thrombosis is extremely rare surgical pathology during pregnancy and frequently is associated with hemoglobinopathies beta-thalassemia, congenital defects of the coagulation and antiphospholipide syndrome. It has nontypical clinical appearance, which hardens the timely diagnosis and the adequate surgical treatment. We present a case of a 22 year-old girl with hemozygote form of beta thalassemia, pregnant in ml II, with mesenteric venose thrombosis. The diagnosis was made on the 24th hour from the beginning of the disease...
