BACKGROUND: acute radiation dermatitis (ARD) is the most widely reported radiotherapy-induced adverse event. Currently, there is no objective or reliable method to measure ARD. OBJECTIVE: our main objective was to identify and quantify the effects of radiotherapy with a computational model using optical coherence tomography (OCT) skin scanning. Secondary objectives included determining the ARD impact of different radiotherapeutic schemes and adjuvant topical therapies...

INTRODUCTION: Numerous prospective studies have shown that the incorporation of genomic assays into clinical practice significantly impacts the choice of adjuvant treatments for patients with early-stage breast cancer. However, the same evidence does not exist for the treatment of locoregional recurrences. HYPOTHESIS AND OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this work was to identify the clinicopathological, molecular, and genetic parameters that allow patients to be more precisely categorised into risk groups, in order to create a locoregional recurrence riskclassification tool, the PersonalRT27...

OBJECTIVE: To measure 3-year care costs of breast, prostate, colorectal and lung cancers disaggregated by site and clinical stage. METHOD: A retrospective observational design was employed to investigate care costs of cases recorded in the Registry of the Basque Country between 2010 and 2015. Data gathered included TNM stage and demographic, clinical and resource use variables. Total costs per patient with stage IV disease were calculated by combining generalized linear models with parametric survival analysis...

AIMS: To evaluate the use of radiotherapy (RT) for oligometastatic cancer (OMC) among radiation oncologists in Lombardy, Italy. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: A survey with 12 items regarding data of 2016 was sent to all 34 Lombardy RT centers. The survey included six general items and six specific items regarding patient/disease/treatment characteristics. RESULTS: Thirteen centers answered the survey (38%). All centers responded to general items and 12 centers submitted patient/disease/treatment data...

Hodgkin's disease (HD) has greatly benefited from new technologies in terms of less invasive and more accurate staging as well as improved overall and relapse-free survival. However, the likelihood of late adverse effects of treatment, including second tumors, has increased due to the longer survival of patients with HD. Today's trend is to aim at minimal therapeutic exposure while guaranteeing lower therapy-related morbidity. This encourages new research efforts but also leads to less uniformity in treatments, as observed in the Veneto Region in Italy...
