Drug repurposing involves the investigation of existing drugs for new indications. It offers a great opportunity to quickly identify a new drug candidate at a lower cost than novel discovery and development. Despite the importance and potential role of drug repurposing, there is no specific definition that healthcare providers and the World Health Organization credit. Unfortunately, many similar and interchangeable concepts are being used in the literature, making it difficult to collect and analyze uniform data on repurposed drugs...

Epithelioid sarcoma (ES) is an uncommon soft tissue sarcoma. It is usually located in the extremities and exceptionally in the neck. Its diagnosis constitutes a real challenge which is based on histology and immunohistochemistry staining that must be interpreted with caution given the anatomopathological similarities to other tumors. In this article, we report a case of a 37-year-old man admitted for a locally advanced ES of the neck. There were suspicions of lymph node metastases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma at the first pathological examination...

Psychology, and cross-cultural psychology (CCP) in particular, plays a pivotal role in understanding the intricate relationship between culture and human behavior. This paper sheds light on the challenges of inequity and marginalization, especially concerning scholarship from the Global South, which have roots in historical colonial practices. It highlights how intellectual extractivism and the predominance of Western research methodologies often overlook the contributions of Global South scholars and indigenous ways of knowing...

QRISK algorithms use data from millions of people to help clinicians identify individuals at high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Here, we derive and externally validate a new algorithm, which we have named QR4, that incorporates novel risk factors to estimate 10-year CVD risk separately for men and women. Health data from 9.98 million and 6.79 million adults from the United Kingdom were used for derivation and validation of the algorithm, respectively. Cause-specific Cox models were used to develop models to predict CVD risk, and the performance of QR4 was compared with version 3 of QRISK, Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation 2 (SCORE2) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk scores...

In this report, we firstly synthesized nitro calix [4] resorcinarene compound (referred as KA30) and characterized it though proton (1 H) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy. KA30 was applied as functionalizing agent for the formation of silver nanoparticles (KA30-AgNPs). These NPs were confirmed as highly selective and extremely sensitive colorimetric sensor for ultra-low level detection of emamectin (EMA) as a novel report...

The Internet of Things (IoT) is gradually changing the way teaching and learning take place in on-campus programs. In particular, face capture services improve student concentration to create an efficient classroom atmosphere by using face recognition algorithms that support end devices. However, reducing response latency and executing face analysis services effectively in real-time is still challenging. For this reason, this paper proposed a pedagogical model of face recognition for IoT devices based on edge computing (TFREC)...

The current study details a sequence of sequential reactions for synthesizing bis-indole-based triazine bearing thiazole derivatives. Several steps were involved in the synthesis of bis-indole-based triazine bearing thiazole derivative. The synthetic reactions were monitored via thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Synthesized compounds were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, including 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and HR-EIMS. The inhibitory activity against urease enzyme of these synthesized compounds was compared with that of thiourea, a standard drug (IC50  = 9...

Pancreatic cancer is a fatal illness caused by mutations in multiple genes. Pancreatic cancer damages the organ that helps in digestion, resulting in symptoms including fatigue, bloating, and nausea. The use of medicinal plants has been crucial in the treatment of numerous disorders. The medicinal plant Calliandra Harrisi has been widely exploited for its possibilities in biology and medicine. The current study aimed to assess the biopotential of biologically active substances against pancreatic cancer. The GC-MS data of these phytochemicals from Calliandra Harrisi were further subjected to computational approaches with pancreatic cancer genes to evaluate their potential as therapeutic candidates...

A highly flexible, tunable morphology membrane with excellent thermal stability and ionic conductivity can endow lithium metal batteries with high power density and reduced dendrite growth. Herein, a porous Polyurethane (PU) membrane with an adjustable morphology was prepared by a simple nonsolvent-induced phase separation technique. The precise control of the final morphology of PU membranes can be achieved through appropriate selection of a nonsolvent, resulting a range of pore structures that vary from finger-like voids to sponge-like pores...

The commercial development of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been significantly delayed by the constraint of performing time-consuming degradation studies under real outdoor conditions. These are necessary steps to determine the device lifetime, an area where PSCs traditionally suffer. In this work, we demonstrate that the outdoor degradation behavior of PSCs can be predicted by employing accelerated indoor stability analyses. The prediction was possible using a swift and accurate pipeline of machine learning algorithms and mathematical decompositions...

Driving pressure (∆P) is a core therapeutic component of mechanical ventilation (MV). Varying levels of ∆P have been employed during MV depending on the type of underlying pathology and severity of injury. However, ∆P levels have also been shown to closely impact hard endpoints such as mortality. Considering this, conducting an in-depth review of ∆P as a unique, outcome-impacting therapeutic modality is extremely important. There is a need to understand the subtleties involved in making sure ∆P levels are optimized to enhance outcomes and minimize harm...
