Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is a multisystem disorder characterized by bilateral granulomatous panuveitis resulting in serous retinal detachments, disk edema, and a sunset glow fundus development. Furthermore, it is associated with various extraocular findings, such as tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo, poliosis, and vitiligo (1). VKH is considered to be an autoimmune disease mediated by T-cells targeting melanocyte antigen tyrosinase peptide (2). Moreover, VKH more often occurs in individuals with a genetic predisposition to the disease, including those of Asian and Hispanic heritage (3)...

We report a case of a 31-year-old gravida 2 para 1 female presenting to the optician with a two-week history of blurred vision and persistent headaches at 29 weeks gestation. Visual acuity on presentation was 6/100 in the right eye and 6/24 in the left eye. Fundoscopy of both eyes revealed serous retinal detachment in the absence of background retinal changes. On urgent admission to the maternity assessment unit, blood pressure was 189/126 mmHg and urine dipstick revealed 4+ proteinuria. Due to recurrent poor foetal heart rate variability on cardiotocography monitoring, an emergency caesarean was conducted...

RATIONALE: The bullous variant of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a severe form of chronic CSC. Patients with the bullous variant of CSC have an increased risk of experiencing multiple pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) tears. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment for the bullous variant of CSC. RPE tear is a possible postoperative complication of PDT for eyes with PEDs. To our knowledge, no cases of giant RPE tears following PDT for the bullous variant of CSC have been reported previously...

BACKGROUND: Kidney and eye diseases may be closely linked. Tears of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) have been reported to be related to kidney diseases, such as IgA nephropathy and light-chain deposition disease. However, pigment epithelium tears associated with membranous nephropathy have not been reported or systematically analysed. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old man presented with decreased right eye visual acuity. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed cystic macular edema, localized serous detachment of the retina and loss of the outer retinal structure in the right eye and retinal pigment epithelium detachment (PED) combined with serous detachment of the retina in the left eye...

PURPOSE: To quantify metamorphopsia in patients with resolved idiopathic Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSCR) using M-CHARTS and compare the results with the traditional Amsler grid and optical coherence tomography (OCT). PATIENTS AND METHODS: For the purpose of this study, all consecutive cases of patients with resolved CSCR were evaluated for metamorphopsia (using the standard Amsler grid and M-CHARTS) and spectral domain OCT. The OCT images were analyzed for the following five parameters: central macular thickness, pigment epithelial detachment, retinal pigment epithelial bumps, discontinuation in the inner segment/outer segment junction or the external limiting membrane, fibrinous exudates in the subretinal space, and hyperreflective dots in the intraretinal and/or subretinal layer...

PURPOSE: Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is an extremely rare, aggressive, multi-system disease that can affect the eye. We describe the ophthalmic presentation, multimodal imaging and treatment response of uveal IVLBCL. METHODS: Review and case report. RESULTS: Twenty-five published cases of IVLBCL involving the eye including our own were identified. Of these, 15 patients (60%) had clinically-detectable intraocular involvement, 6 (24%) had extraocular ophthalmic involvement only and 4 (16%) had subclinical, undiagnosed intraocular involvement that was retrospectively detected on post-mortem ocular histopathology...

The estimation of central choroidal thickness from colour fundus images can improve disease detection. We developed a deep learning method to estimate central choroidal thickness from colour fundus images at a single institution, using independent datasets from other institutions for validation. A total of 2,548 images from patients who underwent same-day optical coherence tomography examination and colour fundus imaging at the outpatient clinic of Jichi Medical University Hospital were retrospectively analysed...

Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a disease characterized by serous detachment of the neuroretina, especially in the posterior pole of the eye. It is often accompanied by serous detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and associated with the leakage of fluid into the subretinal space through the defective RPE. CSC most often affects men of working age. The exact pathophysiology of the disease is not completely known. Based on indocyanine green angiography (ICG), which revealed increased permeability of choroidal vessels, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) showing increased choroidal thickness, choroidal vasculopathy is assumed to be the primary cause of CSC...

A 46-year-old male patient visited our clinic with a complaint of blurred vision in the right eye accompanied by headache and insomnia. The fundus examination showed three bullous retinal detachments in the right eye. Considering the prodromal symptoms and other fundus characteristics such as vitreous cells in the posterior pole and multifocal fluorescence leakages on fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), initial diagnosis was considered as Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH). However, oral glucocorticoids didn't improve patient's vision...

Retinal detachment (RD) occurs when the neurosensory retina, the neurovascular tissue responsible for phototransduction, is separated from the underlying retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Given the importance of the RPE for optimal retinal function, RD invariably leads to decreased vision. There are three main types of RD: rhegmatogenous, tractional and exudative (also termed serous) RD. In rhegmatogenous RD, one or more retinal breaks enable vitreous fluid to enter the subretinal space and separate the neurosensory retina from the RPE...

RESULTS: Thirty affected eyes from 16 pregnant women with preeclampsia were included. The features of serous retinal detachment, observed using SD-OCT, consisted of lesions located in the macular or peripapillary region; the presence of intraretinal or subretinal fluid (intraretinal fluid, IRF; subretinal fluid, SRF); ellipsoid zone integrity (normal/abnormal); intraretinal hyper-reflective dots; and Elschnig spots (retinal pigment epithelium lesions)...
