The coalesce-induced condensate drop motion on some superhydrophobic surfaces (SHSs) has attracted increasing attention because of its wide potential applications. However, microscopic mechanism of spontaneous motion has not been discussed thoroughly. In this study, we fabricated two types of superhydrophobic copper surfaces with sisal-like nanoribbon structures and defoliation-like nanosheet structures by different wet chemical oxidation process and followed by same fluorization treatment. With lotus leaf and butterfly wing as control samples, the spontaneous motion phenomenon of condensate drops on these four kinds of SHSs was investigated by using optical microscope under ambient conditions...

The coalescence-induced condensate drop motion on some superhydrophobic surfaces (SHSs) has attracted increasing attention because of its potential applications in sustained dropwise condensation, water collection, anti-icing, and anticorrosion. However, an investigation of the mechanism of such self-propelled motion including the factors for designing such SHSs is still limited. In this article, we fabricated a series of superhydrophobic copper surfaces with nanoribbon structures using wet chemical oxidation followed by fluorization treatment...

Y(OH)3:Er3+ nanowires were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Y(OH)3:Er3+ can convert into NH4Y3F10:Er3+ after fluorization, and NH4Y3F10:Er3+ can convert into YF3:Er3+ after being annealed. The structures of obtained Y(OH)3:Er3+, NH4Y3F10:Er3+, and YF3:Er3+ samples were pure hexagonal, cubic, and orthorhombic phase, respectively. Under 378-nm excitation, the three samples showed similar features. The 2H9/2, --> 4I15/2, 4F3/2(4F5/2) --> 4I15/2, and 4S3/2 --> 4I15/2 were observed, and the most intense peak was centered at 436 nm [4F3/2(4F5/2) --> 4I15/2]...

Conjugative plasmids transfer in Enterococcus faecalis is inducted by sex pheromones. The pheromone is excreted by recipient cells and induces expression of aggregation protein AS in donor cells. This protein is involved in formation of matting aggregates. Use of flow cytometry and anti-As monoclonal antibodies allowed collect of interesting data pheromone response. However, according to our knowledge, no study focused on unspecific influence on particular pheromone for plasmid-free recipient strains. Six pAD1 (-) and tree pAD1 (+) Enterococcus faecalis stains were cultivated for 18h in BHI, with and without cAD1 pheromone (Sigma, Germany), respectively...

Although it has been reported that fluoride ingestion has no influence on various indices of hematopoiesis, some research has been published that excessive fluoride developed anemia and eosinophilia of leukocytes. Isparta is situated on the lake region of Turkey where fluorosis is endemic. Our aim was to explore the hematological effects in rats induced by fluoride. In this study, Wistar-Albino rats were used, divided into two groups as control and fluorized. While the control group was administered commercial water (including 0...

In the present study, the problem of caries and its actual state in a seaside region of Granada is analyzed. 1.001 aged 5 to 15 scholars from three towns--Motril, Itrabo and Molvizar--were studied. In the descriptive survey, the prevalence of the illness by CO, CAOD, CAOS and CAOM epidemiologic indexes is registered, and also its distribution by place, age and sex. A general 1.45 CO, global 1.22 CAOD, 1.36 total CAOS and 0.94 CAOM were estimated. The relation of sweets taken out of the eating time, buccodental hygiene degree and fluorization drinking water levels with caries are studied in the analitic part...

Today with the development of new restorative materials, the esthetic problems of the anterior teeth because of hypoplazies, fluorizes, fractures shape, form or color irregularities can be treated with conservative preventive and esthetic techniques such as bleaching, surface coating, cosmetic contouring and composite laminate veneering. These procedures are usefull adjuncts and economic alternatives to more extensive procedures such as crown applications. In this study, the young patients who have esthetic and psychologic problems due to color, form, shape, surface texture abnormalities and fractures of their anterior teeth were treated with bleaching, composite laminate veneer and cosmetic contouring techniques...
