Both anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) and papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) originate from thyroid follicular epithelial cells, but ATC has a significantly worse prognosis and shows resistance to conventional therapies. However, clinical trials found that immunotherapy works better in ATC than late-stage PTC. Here, we utilized single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to generate a single-cell atlas of thyroid cancer. Differences in ATC and PTC tumor microenvironment (TME) components (including malignant cells, stromal cells, and immune cells) leading to the polarized prognoses were identified...

It is usually believed that differentiated thyroid cancer is less likely to have distant metastases and rarely occurs secondary to hyperthyroidism. In our case report, we describe a patient diagnosed with thyroid fetal adenoma in 2002 who subsequently presented with a painful lump in her right rib. Through puncture biopsy, the mass was considered as metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma, and then she appeared to have hyperthyroidism. The results of SPECT examination and other tests suggested that the hyperthyroidism was secondary to the thyroid cancer...

Patients underwent surgical procedures for FCDTC in 2015 or earlier at the Mayo Clinic or another institution. Follow-up data were collected from January 1, 2016, through July 20, 2022...

Malignant struma ovarii (MSO) with synchronous primary thyroid cancer in the neck is extremely rare and lacks a treatment consensus. A 44-year-old woman presenting with a left ovarian cyst was admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Beijing, China) Ultrasonography showed a 6 cm solid-cystic left ovarian mass with plentiful blood signals. Other notable findings were an elevated CA125 level and a suspected malignant thyroid nodule. A unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (USO) was conducted, and the surgical pathology was papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) arising in a struma ovarii...

It is crucial for doctors to decide whether a thyroid nodule is benign or malignant when a patient presents with one, as it will significantly impact how the patient is managed in the future. However, it is not as straightforward to determine between the two; even a physical examination, thyroid function test, ultrasonography, and biopsy have been well performed. It can be more stressful if a patient has an increased risk of malignancy, such as age (below 20- and above 60-year-old), solid nodule, rapid growth, hoarseness, lymphadenopathy, and microcalcifications on the ultrasonography...

BACKGROUND: While track recurrence of thyroid cancer following endoscopic and robotic transaxillary surgeries has been reported previously, no such cases have been reported for transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA). This case report describes the first documented case of recurrence of thyroid cancer along the surgical track after TOETVA. Treatment and follow-up procedures are not clearly established due to the paucity of MSO cases. CASE 1: A 44-year-old multiparous female presented with an irregular period. Single-pollutant methods to evaluate associations between endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and thyroid cancer risk may not reflect realistic human exposures. Therefore, we evaluated associations between exposure to a mixture of 18 EDCs, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), brominated flame retardants, and organochlorine pesticides, and risk of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), the most common thyroid cancer histological subtype. We conducted a nested case-control study among U.S. military servicemembers of 652 histologically-confirmed PTC cases diagnosed between 2000 and 2013 and 652 controls, matched on birth year, sex, race/ethnicity, military component (active duty/reserve), and serum sample timing...

Poorly differentiated thyroid carcinomas (PDTC) are rare diseases; nevertheless, they account for the majority of deaths from non-anaplastic follicular cell-derived thyroid carcinomas. Establishing the diagnosis and treatment of PDTC is challenging given the low incidence and the lack of standardization of diagnostic criteria. These limitations hamper the ability to compare therapeutic modalities and outcomes between recent and older studies. Recently, the 5th edition of the classification of endocrine tumors has been published, which includes changes in nomenclature and the addition of the disease entity of "differentiated high-grade follicular cell-derived carcinomas"...

Cowden syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic condition due to the various germline mutations in the phosphatase and tensin homologue on chromosome ten (PTEN) tumour suppressor gene. As a result, CS is characterised by an increased risk of developing various benign and malignant tumours, such as thyroid, breast, endometrial and urogenital neoplasms, as well as gastrointestinal tract tumours. However, the neuroendocrine tumour association with CS is not elucidated yet. We present a case of a 46-year-old male patient diagnosed with testicular seminoma and follicular thyroid cancer in his medical history...
