BACKGROUND: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) caused by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is rare and needs further exploration. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical features and surgical treatment of TN caused by VBD. METHODS: 15 patients with TN caused by VBD were included in our study. The patient data regarding clinical characteristics, neuroimaging presentations, intraoperative findings and treatment outcomes were analyzed retrospectively. Moreover, the previous relevant literature was reviewed simultaneously...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Vetebrobasilar dolichoectasia is characterized by arterial elongation, dilation, and tortuosity and leads to high risks of ischemic stroke. Our aim was to investigate the differential susceptibility to elastase-induced vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia induction in 2 different mouse strains. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Elastase (25 mU) was injected into the cisterna magna in C57BL/6J ( n = 36) and 129/SvEv (SV129) ( n = 36) mice. Control animals were injected with heat-inactivated elastase ( n = 12 for each strain)...

To evaluate immediate and long-term clinical and ultrasound efficacy of proximal vertebral arteries stenting. We studied 74 subjects (age 61+/-10 years) who underwent transluminal balloon angioplasty with stenting of vertebral arteries (77 vessels). Technical success (i.e., residual stenosis < 20%) was achieved in 95% patients. No events (acute stroke, myocardial infarction, or death) were recorded during the procedure or in early postoperative period. Clinical improvement was seen in 81% patients presented with symptoms of vetebrobasilar insufficiency at the baseline (n = 52)...

Two cases of rhabdomyosarcoma in the head and neck with neurological manifestations are presented. Brain scan demonstrated an apparent area of increased uptake of 99mTc in the tumor. Cerebral angiography revealed a sharply demarcated but rather faint tumor stain. The contributing vessels were hypertrophied branches of the external carotid artery, a dural branch of the internal carotid artery, and branches of the vetebrobasilar systes emphasized because the recent combination of chemotherapy in conjuction with surgery and irradiation seems to be encouraging...
