The Hyperglycemic Profiles in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (HYPNOS) randomized clinical trial was conducted in adults with type 2 diabetes and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) to determine whether treatment with positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy is associated with improvements in glycemic measures. Participants were randomly assigned to PAP therapy with lifestyle counseling or lifestyle counseling alone. While observational and experimental evidence indicate that intermittent hypoxemia and recurrent arousals in OSA may alter glucose metabolism and worsen glycemic measures, the effect of treating OSA with PAP therapy on these measures in type 2 diabetes is uncertain...

The incidence of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is increasing worldwide, with over three quarters of cases now diagnosed in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) with resource-constraints. Loco-regional recurrence remains the predominant pattern of failure mandating adequate local therapy for acceptable loco-regional control and survival. There is high-quality evidence that intensification of treatment by either by adding concurrent chemotherapy or by altering radiotherapy (RT) fractionation improves outcomes in the curative-intent management of loco-regionally advanced HNSCC...

Tapinanthus globiferus is often referred to as an all-purpose herb for the treatment of stroke and epilepsy. The present study investigates the anticonvulsant effect of methanolic leaf extract, active fractions, and lupeol (isolate) of Tapinanthus globiferus in mice as well as the underlying mechanisms. Following phytochemical studies of T. globiferus , preliminary assays were performed to evaluate MLE-induced toxic effect and behavioral changes. The pentylenetetrazol (70 mg/kg, i. p.)-induced seizure was evaluated in mice that were pretreated orally with vehicle 10 mL/kg, MLE (4, 20, or 100 mg/kg), fractions (F1 to F6), lupeol 10 mg/kg or diazepam (3 mg/kg)...

It may be that individuals who are interested in hypnosis will volunteer for hypnosis experiments or practice hypnosis. Do these "hypnosis-prone" individuals differ from hypno-neutral, nonhypnosis-prone individuals? If so, could one speak of a personality type, the homo hypnoticus ? This study reports on 3 samples of individuals where there was no indication of hypnosis or no interest in hypnosis (NONHYP: N = 1426) and 4 samples of individuals who were interested in hypnosis (HYP: N = 1048). Using the Personality Styles and Disorders Inventory, we calculated contrast analyses for the contextual effect of HYP vs...

Psychotherapy by means of hypnosis is one of the oldest methods of psychotherapy. The hypnotherapy method is particularly suitable for treating trauma victims. This article presents a clinical case and description of treatment by the hypnotherapy method called Ego State Hypno-Analysis. This treatment is part of a multi-stage therapeutic program based on the principles of the psycho-trauma treatment by Pierre Janet and John Watkins. The results indicate that hypnotic psychotherapy can accelerate and improve the treatment of patients suffering from chronic PTSD...

In this study we analyzed retrospectively a database of 44 alleged death experiences between incarnations, as reported by 36 participants during hypnotic life regression sessions with the same hypnotist. The descriptions of these experiences were evaluated using the Italian version of the Near-Death Experience Scale. A large part of the reported experiences were categorized as "Affective", with a majority reported as: "Feeling a sense of joy" and "Seeing and being enveloped by a bright light", as well as in the "Transcendental" category, with all experiences showing a similar frequency...

Background: Previous studies concerning sedation in Swedish intensive care units (ICU) have shown variability in drug choices and strategies. Currently, there are no national guidelines on this topic. As an update to a Nordic survey from 2004, and as a follow-up to a recently introduced quality indicator from the Swedish Intensive Care Registry, we performed a national survey. Methods: A digital survey was sent to the ICUs in Sweden, asking for sedation routines regarding hypnosedatives, analgosedatives, protocols, sedation scales, etc...

In the present study probable mechanism of anxiolytic action of Nardostachys jatamansi extract (NJE) was studied using behavioral anxiolytic tests (Elevated plus maze, Open field test, Light dark box test, and Vogel's conflict test) in mice. Mice were treated orally with NJE (250 mg/kg) for 3, 7 and 14 days or diazepam (1 mg/kg) followed by behavioral assessment and estimation of monoamine neurotransmitters, GABA, and antioxidant enzymes...

Psychotropic drugs (hypno-sedatives, antidepressants and antipsychotics) are commonly used in the older population. On the long term, psychotropic drug use in older persons is associated with several negative functional outcomes such as an increased risk of falls. Gradual withdrawal of psychotropic drugs in older persons is feasible and leads to a significant reduction of falls. Both withdrawal of psychotropic drugs as well as the initiation of appropriate treatment with psychotropic drugs requires knowledge, consultation and cooperation between disciplines and a mentality change among healthcare professionals...

A huge number of natural and synthetic compounds modulate the function of the γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor (GABAA-R) by interacting with several allosteric binding sites which may differ in the various GABAA-R subtypes. The benzodiazepine receptor (BDZ-R) is the most intensively studied allosteric site. It is the first allosteric modulatory site on a neurotransmitter receptor that has been found to mediate two opposite functions: facilitation and depression of GABAA-R function. The effects of BDZ-R ligands on behavior range from agonistic (anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, myore-laxant/ataxic and hypno-sedative effects) to inverse-agonistic (anxiety and panic, hypervigilance and convulsions)...

A child or adolescent can suffer from chronic pain. Whatever the causes, it can trap the child in a specific process whereby they focus on the pain, fearing that it will appear and experiencing anxiety. Hypno-analgesia and hypnotherapy enable them to escape this process and find within themselves the capacity to face up to the pain. Moreover, these techniques offer them an autonomy which they can use in all areas of their life.

The Comparative anatomy of the 11 recognized genera within Torpediniformes is described, systematically categorized, and illustrated in a comprehensive photo-atlas. To assess and manage pain in children and adolescents with mild to moderate intellectual disability, healthcare providers need access to updated tools and current knowledge. Recent studies show that these children can verbally express pain and use self-assessment tools accurately. Moreover, they know pain coping strategies. Finally, they show mental imaging skills and are able to recall autobiographical memories. These new data suggest that such children and adolescents could be candidates to for hypno-analgesia protocols and behavioral relaxation...
