Radon therapy is one of the methods of physiobalneotherapy the mechanism of action of which is believed to consist of the influence of the small radiation doses of radon and its daughter products on the nervous, vascular, and immune apparatuses of the skin and mucosal membranes that eventually enhances the protective and adaptive potential of the body and thereby its ability to resist pathological impacts. At present, the high effectiveness of radon therapy is universally recognized and this method is widely applied for the combined treatment of various diseases in different fields of medicine...

BACKGROUND: Severe burn triggers systemic responses that result in reduced muscle mass and bone formation, with recent evidence also suggesting systemic effects on bone after minor burn. The aim of this study was to assess if children and adolescents who are hospitalised with a burn have increased long-term hospital service use for musculoskeletal conditions. METHODS: A population-based longitudinal study using linked hospital morbidity and death data from Western Australia was undertaken of those younger than 20 years when hospitalized for a first burn (n=13,244) during the period 1980-2012 and a frequency matched non-injury comparison cohort, randomly selected from Western Australia's birth registrations and electoral roll (n=51,021)...

Based on spectral analysis of heart rhythm variability, studies covered changes in vegetative regulation in patients with occupational dorsopathies of cervical and lumbar regions. Findings are that 75% of patients with occupational dorsopathies have marked vegetative disorders - insufficient activity of sympathetic nervous system and drastic dominance of parasympathetic regulatory mechanisms due to pathologic vertebrogenous influences on peripheral vegetative structures. The most informative stress testing to reveal vegetative dysfunction in patients with occupational dorsopathies is flexion test...

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cross-sectional database analysis. OBJECTIVE: The cost of spine surgery is growing exponentially, and cost-effectiveness is a critical consideration. Smoking has been shown to increase hospital costs in general surgery, but this impact has not been reported in patients with spinal disease. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of smoking on cost and complications in a large sample of patients admitted for treatment of spinal disease...

We undertook the correlation analysis of the parameters characterizing the intensity of the skin sympathetic reactions and local temperature of skin projections of the spinal nerves in three groups of patients presenting with dorsopathies and differing in terms of sympathetic regulation of the microvasculature. It was shown that the patients of group 1 exhibited positive correlation between the above parameters (preserved vegetative regulation of microcirculation despite the tendency toward its atonic-stagnant disturbances)...

OBJECTIVE: Unfortunately, nowadays there are no reliable ways to predict the outcomes of the conservative treatment in patients with dorsopathies. Otherwise, we could identify patients that demand intensive treatment including therapeutic blockades. We approbated and modified a method for assessment of radicular latency duration in patients with lumbosacral radiculopathies to evaluate its diagnostic value and the possibility of using in monitoring of effectiveness of conservative treatment...
