BACKGROUND: Fetal fibronectin (fFN) is used as a biomarker for preterm delivery. Currently, its use is discouraged if there has been vaginal manipulation in the previous 24 hours. OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to determine if there are differences between fFN results before and after vaginal manipulation in the form of sterile vaginal exam or transvaginal ultrasound. STUDY DESIGN: This was a prospective observational cohort study at a single center of women between 22-33 6/7 weeks at risk for preterm delivery due to: (1) a history of preterm delivery, short cervix, or multifetal gestation; or (2) symptoms of preterm labor...

Transuterine migration is the passage of fertilised ova from one uterine horn into the other. The phenomenon has been described for animals of different species with a bicornuate type of uterus. Whether or not it occurs in rodents is questionable, but could have an impact on the way embryo transfers are carried out, i.e. unilaterally or bilaterally. The aim of this study was to examine the occurrence of transuterine migrations in nulliparous and multiparous mice after unilateral embryo transfer. Sixteen two-cell embryos were transferred into either the left or the right oviduct of mice with different genetic origin...

The cause of the female urethral syndrome has previously been obscure, as it has been associated by definition with a lack of objective findings but a plethora of subjective complaints of retropubic pressure, dyspareunia, urinary frequency, and dysuria. There is now strong evidence that the microscopic paraurethral glands connected to the distal third of the urethra in the prevaginal space are homologous to the prostate. They stain histologically for prostate-specific antigen and, like the prostate, are subject to both infection and cancer...

R Villet, P Morice, A Bech, D Salet-Lizée, M Zafiropulo
The authors report a series of 62 female patients operated for rectocele and/or elytrocele via an abdominal approach. The technique was based on insertion of a retrovaginal prosthesis attached to the sacrum. Other surgical procedures can be performed at the same operation: hysterectomy, insertion of a prevaginal prosthesis, retropubic colpopexy. The anatomical and functional results were excellent in these patients previously operated for urinary incontinence or prolapse (99%). The indication for total hysterectomy during the same operation must be limited as this procedure increases the morbidity and impairs the functional results...
