INTRODUCTION: Although it is not a new method, a carboxytherapy, which is based on intradermal or subcutaneous administration of controlled doses of CO2, is gaining more and more recognition among aesthetic medicine doctors, dermatologists and cosmetologists around the world. The consequence of applying carbon dioxide directly into tissues is associated with an immediate expansion of blood vessels, improvement of local blood supply, and, thus, tissue metabolism. It does also support natural regenerative processes...

The psychology behind an aesthetic procedure needs to be understood and assessed by the attending cosmetologist for the satisfactory outcome of the procedure. Being alert about certain psychiatric conditions can help in deferring certain procedures, which prevent us from correcting something that is actually not required and will protect us from future trouble. The incorporation of the user-friendly body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) screening questionnaire in preaesthetic procedure workup as a routine can help in excluding psychologically unstable patients, who can be a contraindication for conducting the procedure per se...

Hair loss disorders may cause considerable distress to patients. Although many do not pose a significant medical risk, the sociocultural importance of hair is substantial. Often the extent of hair loss does not correlate to the impact on psychosocial function, thus necessitating an individualized approach. Hair loss disorders are interrelated with mental health and at times exert significant psychological percussions, and therefore, providers should address both medical and psychological aspects of treatment...

The purpose of the study is to identify features inherent in the specialties included in «aesthetic medicine». There has been an increase in the number of citizens turning to law enforcement agencies regarding shortcomings in the provision of medical care in general and in the field of plastic surgery and cosmetology in particular. Currently there is no clear regulation of the provision of medical care in the field of plastic surgery and cosmetology. The difficulty in assessing medical care in these areas lies in the fact that they are subjective in nature, which makes it difficult to assess the correctness of the provision of appropriate medical care...

Colonization of skin by Demodex mites developing as a single facial lesion with a limited range is diagnosed relatively rarely. The presence of this type of skin lesions may hinder and thus delay the diagnostic process and application of appropriate treatment. The persistent cosmetic defect on the face is extremely onerous/embarrassing to the patient and impedes normal functioning. Describe a case of atypical presentation of primary facial demodicosis and its successful treatment. We present a case of a 38-year-old patient who consulted an aesthetic medicine doctor about a skin lesion, that is, erythematous-papular lesion with single pustules persisting for more than half a year around the right eye corner and below the lower eyelid...

BACKGROUND: Several studies have attempted to define the dimensions of an aesthetically pleasing eyebrow. However, these dimensions represent the views of plastic surgeons and cosmetologists, not necessarily the general public. We hypothesized that many patients who present to their plastic surgeon for periorbital rejuvenation actually want their eyebrows to be in a more natural position than was represented in the studies we surveyed. OBJECTIVE: A study was designed to define the dimensions of an aesthetically pleasing eyebrow from the perspective of the general public...

Ancient cultures were as preoccupied with the aesthetics of appearance as individuals are today. Dermabrasion for skin resurfacing has been performed with salt, pumice, ground grains, bone, and horn. Chemical peels have been performed with acids, metals, botanical extracts, or animal fats. Tattoos, ear piercing, makeup, skin treatments, and massages have existed for the past 5000 years. According to history, when the rise of more complex societies brought an ever-increasing demand for cosmesis, perfumers, cosmetologists, barbers, and gentlewomen became pioneers, undertaking and developing the cosmetic practices that had evolved through the ages...

This study correlates brow lift outcomes published in the plastic surgical literature with aesthetic criteria for ideal female eyebrow height and shape. Aesthetic criteria were determined by testing the opinions of 11 cosmetic surgeons and 9 cosmetologists. Eyebrow height and shape were altered with computer graphics to isolate those changes as the only variables of appearance. Plastic surgeons and cosmetologists preferred (p = 0.01) medial eyebrows below or at the supraorbital rim and disliked the medial eyebrow above the rim...
