BACKGROUND: Pullout of inserted anchor constitutes one of the pathomechanisms of re-tearing after rotator cuff repair. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the fixation properties of suture anchors using 3-dimensional finite element method. METHODS: The computer models of three types of anchors (TwinFix Ti, HEALICOIL PK and HEALICOIL RG) were inserted into the isotropic cube model that simulated cancellous bone. In the virtual pullout testing, a tensile load (500 N) along the long axis of the inserted anchor was applied to the site of suture thread attachment to simulate a traction force...

The merits of double-row tendon fixation have been well defined in the shoulder and may have greater applicability for gluteus medius tears in the hip, in which protection of the repair site can be even more of a challenge because the hip is a weight-bearing extremity. A detailed technique for double-row fixation with a reliable method and implants is highlighted in the accompanying stepwise-approach video. Standard laterally based peritrochanteric portals are used, including a viewing portal posterior to the vastus lateralis ridge and a working portal distal to the ridge, with anchors placed proximally, perpendicular to the cortex of the trochanter...

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical and design characteristics of newer suture anchors under cyclic loading. METHODS: Suture anchors were tested in fresh porcine cortical and cancellous bone by cyclic loading (10 to 100 N for 200 cycles) followed by destructive testing parallel to the insertion axis at 12.5 mm per second. End points included ultimate failure load, displacement at 100 and 200 cycles, failure mode, and stiffness. Anchors tested included ReelX (Stryker Endoscopy, San Jose, CA); Footprint Ultra PK (4...
