INTRODUCTION: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a threat to animal and human health, as well as food security and nutrition. Development of AMR is accelerated by over- and misuse of antimicrobials as seen in many livestock systems, including poultry production. In Vietnam, high AMR levels have been reported previously within poultry production, a sector which is dominated by small-scale farming, even though it is intensifying. This study focuses on understanding small- and medium-scale chicken farmers' knowledge and practices related to AMR by applying an item response theory (IRT) approach, which has several advantages over simpler statistical methods...

In certain low-income nations, the hepatitis Delta virus and hepatitis B virus (HBV) pose a serious medical burden, where the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is greater than 8%. Especially in rural places, irregular diagnostic exams are the main restriction and reason for underestimation. Utilizing serum samples from a Pakistani isolate, an internal ELISA for the quick identification of anti-HDV was created, and the effectiveness of the test was compared to a commercial diagnostic kit. HDV-positive serum samples were collected, and a highly antigenic domain of HDAg antigen was derived from them...

BACKGROUND: Treatment of invasive gram-positive infections in complex patient populations is challenging. Dalbavancin, approved for skin and soft tissue infections, offers advantages in this setting due to its long half-life and infrequent dosing. However, less is known about the outcomes of off-label dalbavancin for deeper infections. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study is to examine the feasibility and outcomes of patients with complex gram-positive infections treated with dalbavancin as an alternative to standard outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT)...

Imposter phenomenon (IP) is the internalised experience of self-doubt or mediocracy that leads an individual to believe they do not belong. IP is increasingly recognised across the medical field, from medical school to consultancy, but likely affects different groups to varying extents. The transition in role from medical student to junior doctor can be a time of particularly high stress and insecurities about one's ability can act as a trigger or exacerbator of IP. Foundation doctors can arm themselves against IP by first acknowledging its existence and then actively attempting to dismantle these flawed misconceptions, as well as accessing support and resources available ubiquitously through the foundation programme...

Obesity affects 1 in 4 people in the United Kingdom and costs the National Health Service (NHS) ∼£6.5 billion annually. The glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor analogues, such as once-daily subcutaneous Liraglutide 3.0 mg (Saxenda®) and once-weekly subcutaneous Semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy®), were approved by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for obesity and funded by the NHS for 2 years. Our local data shows that Saxenda is effective at reducing bodyweight and glycaemia in people with obesity and diabetes however, the supply issues of GLP-1 receptor analogues has contributed to the unavailability of Saxenda and Wegovy in our service...

BACKGROUND: People with epilepsy are at increased risk of multiple co-morbidities that may influence risk of adverse outcomes including impact on quality of life and premature mortality. These risk factors include potentially modifiable clinical characteristics associated with sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). For services to tackle risk, the clinical complexity of the target epilepsy population needs to be defined. While this has been comprehensively studied in large, economically developed countries little knowledge of these issues exist in small economically developed countries, like Malta (population: 500,000)...

Based on an ethnographically inspired approach, the article examines how the organisation of workspaces shapes healthcare work and its embodied everyday rhythms. The data is gathered in a health station, which has been redesigned. We approach the health station utilizing Henri Lefebvre's (1991) theory on the production of space. The article analyses how the conflicting values of a health station are embodied in the workplace, using Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis and the concept of organisational dressage. The analysis shows tensions between conceived space and lived space with their different rhythms...

The current challenge in effectively treating atrial fibrillation (AF) stems from a limited understanding of the intricate structure of the human atria. The objective and quantitative interpretation of the right atrium (RA) in late gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (LGE-MRI) scans relies heavily on its precise segmentation. Leveraging the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for RA segmentation presents a promising solution. However, the successful implementation of AI in this context necessitates access to a substantial volume of annotated LGE-MRI images for model training...
