The phenomenon of ion cyclotron resonance allows for determining mass-to-charge ratio, m/z, of an ensemble of ions by means of measurements of their cyclotron frequency, ω c . In Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS), the ω c quantity is usually unavailable for direct measurements: the resonant state is located close to the reduced cyclotron frequency (ω+), whereas the ω c and the corresponding m/z values may be calculated via theoretical derivation from an experimental estimate of the ω+ quantity...

In order to expand the potential applications of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), structure directing agents modified mesoporous MIL-53(Al) (MIL-53(Al)-1) was investigated to adsorb triclosan (TCS) with two different initial concentrations. MIL-53(Al)-1 with high mesoporosity and total pore volume exhibited higher adsorption capacity and 4.4 times faster adsorption of TCS at low concentration (1 mg L(-1)) than that of microporous MIL-53(Al). Also, mesoporous as well as microporous MIL-53(Al) showed significant higher adsorption capacity and two orders of magnitude greater fast uptake of TCS than two kinds of mesoporous-activated carbon...

To date, plenty of new alternative materials for phosphopeptides enrichment prior to mass spectrometry (MS) analysis appear, especially immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography (IMAC) materials. The variable combinations with different metal ions, chelating ligands and solid supports offer full of optionality for IMAC. However, further improvement was predicted by the tedious and complex synthetic process. In this work, a novel covalent organic framework (COF)-based IMAC material (denoted TpPa-2-Ti(4+)) was prepared simply by direct immobilizing Ti (IV) into TpPa-2 COFs without any extra chelating ligands...

The performance of solar energy conversion into alternative energy sources in artificial systems highly depends on the thermostability of photosystem I (PSI) complexes Terasaki et al. (2007), Iwuchukwu et al. (2010), Kothe et al. (2013) . To assess the thermostability of PSI complexes from the thermophilic cyanobacterium Thermosynechococcus elongatus heating induced perturbations on the level of secondary structure of the proteins were studied. Changes were monitored by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra in the mid-IR region upon slow heating (1°C per minute) of samples in D2O phosphate buffer (pD 7...

As part of a study of pyrrole hydrazone, we have investigated quantum chemical calculations, molecular geometry, relative energy, vibrational properties and antimycobacterial/antimicrobial activity of pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde isonicotinyl hydrazone (PCINH), by applying the density functional theory (DFT) and Hartree Fock (HF). Good reproduction of experimental values is obtained and with small percentage error in majority of the cases in comparison to theoretical result (DFT). The experimental FT-IR and Raman wavenumbers were compared with the respective theoretical values obtained from DFT calculations and found to agree well...

The spontaneous α-to-δ phase transition of the Formamidinium-based (FA) lead halide perovskite hinders its large scale application in solar cells. Though this phase transition can be inhibited by alloying with Methylammonium-based (MA) perovskite, the underlying mechanism is largely unexplored. In this communication, we grow high quality mixed cations and halides perovskite single crystals (FAPbI3)1-x(MAPbBr3)x to understand the principles for maintaining pure perovskite phase, which is essential to device optimization...

BACKGROUND: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) envelope glycoprotein (Env), a Type 1 transmembrane protein, assembles into a trimeric spike complex that mediates virus entry into host cells. The high potential energy of the metastable, unliganded Env trimer is maintained by multiple non-covalent contacts among the gp120 exterior and gp41 transmembrane Env subunits. Structural studies suggest that the gp41 transmembrane region forms a left-handed coiled coil that contributes to the Env trimer interprotomer contacts...

Adipic acid, an abundant and nontoxic compound, was used to dissolve and cross-link chitosan. After the preparation of chitosan films through casting technique, the in situ amidation reaction was performed at 80-100 °C as verified by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The reaction was accompanied by the release of water which was employed to investigate the reaction kinetics. Accordingly, the reaction rate followed the first-order model and Arrhenius equation, and the activation energy was calculated to be 18 kJ/mol...

Analysis of bioorganic materials by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) is frequently limited due to overlapping of diagnostic bands from the various components, which poses a fundamental problem to this analytical technique. The distinction of oxidized di- and triterpenes, for example, is hindered by the superposition of similar absorption bands of carbonyl functional groups summing up to a broad, nondistinctive signal. This study presents a technique for selective fluorination of various carboxylic acids by exposure to gaseous sulfur tetrafluoride...

Many man-made chemical compounds are recognized as endocrine disruptors and once released into the environment are likely to spread and bioaccumulate in wild species. Due to their lipophilic nature, these substances pass through the cell membrane or bind to specific receptors activating physiological responses that in the long run can cause reproductive impairment, physiological disorders, including the occurrence of metabolic syndromes. One significant source of contamination is represented by the consumption of polluted food...

PURPOSE: Treatment of metopic craniosynostosis is performed by either fronto-orbital advancement (FOA) or endoscopic-assisted techniques. Interfrontal angle (IFA) is a validated measure of trigonocephaly, but requires a computed tomography scan. The most common direct measure to assess surgical outcome in patients with trigonocephaly is frontal width (ft-ft). The aim of this study is to determine if frontal width correlates with IFA and successful surgical correction 1 year after treatment...
