Endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery is increasingly prevalent, with its scope expanding from pathogens in the midline region to those in the paramedian region. Maximizing anterior sphenoidectomy is important for the median approach, and lateralizing the pterygopalatine fossa is crucial for the paramedian approach. Maximizing the surgical corridor in the nasal cavity and minimizing damage to neurovascular structures are vital for establishing a surgical field with minimal bleeding, ensuring safe, precise, and gentle procedures...

Dengue is a systemic viral infection, and clinical findings vary from asymptomatic to life-threatening, including shock and neurological complications. Despite efforts in vector control, the disease continues to spread worldwide, and the number of annual dengue infections is estimated to be 390 million. For patients with severe dengue, early diagnosis is important; however, owing to the wide range of symptoms and severity, diagnosis can be difficult. Herein, we report the case of a 24-year-old man from Vietnam who was found to have dengue shock syndrome complicated by meningoencephalitis, even though he did not show the typical clinical manifestations of dengue infection...

We propose a new methodology to systematically transform presurveyed argument preferences into fictional narratives, that can help people to imagine the consequences of future events, and measure how they impact willingness to pay for a public policy. We apply narrative theory to construct two short narratives that depict an imaginary future, bleak due to climate change or energy dependence, and show experimentally that exposure to these narratives increases contributions in a Public Goods game, framed as payments toward the construction of new nuclear plant in The Netherlands...

Esophageal cancer (EC) is a common form of malignant tumor in the digestive system that is classified into two types: Esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCC) and esophageal adenocarcinoma. ESCC is known for its early onset of symptoms, which can be difficult to identify, as well as its rapid progression and tendency to develop drug resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. These factors contribute to the high incidence of disease and low cure rate. Therefore, a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target need to be identified for ESCC...

Anastomosing hemangioma (AH) is rare and a newly recognized variant of capillary hemangioma that is mostly found in the genitourinary tract. Additionally, AH is sometimes difficult to diagnose without pathological specimens. It is difficult to diagnose preoperatively due to the lack of specific clinical and radiologic appearance. The present report describes the imaging features from a radiological perspective and outlines the clinicopathologic features and treatment options. A 67-year-old woman was referred to Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center (Koshigaya, Japan) for a retroperitoneal tumor that was identified at a medical checkup 4 years prior...

The occupational chemical 4-Vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) is a reproductively toxic environmental pollutant that causes follicular failure, leading to premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), which significantly impacts a woman's physical health and fertility. Investigating VCD's pathogenic mechanisms can offer insights for the prevention of ovarian impairment and the treatment of POI. This study established a mouse model of POI through intraperitoneal injection of VCD into female C57BL/6 mice for 15 days...

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a pediatric malignancy with a variable prognosis depending on tumor stage and genotype. There has been a significant improvement in survival rates over the past decades. However, aggressive variants can metastasize to locations that are difficult to treat. We report a case of prostatic alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma with metastases to the bone marrow and thoracic spine in a child. The patient was treated with a multimodal approach that included surgical resection of the epidural mass; the administration of vincristine, dactinomycin, and cyclophosphamide; and radiotherapy...

Internal herniation is a protrusion of the bowel limited to the abdominal cavity. This pathology is rare and difficult to diagnose due to a wide array of symptoms that may manifest. Internal hernias have the potential to affect surrounding organs such as the stomach and adjacent bowel due to the compressive force of the protruding bowel. The effects of internal herniation commonly present in one of two ways: acute obstruction which requires emergent intervention and subacute, vague symptoms that are difficult to diagnose...

Vascular malformations, which include disorders of the lymphatic or vascular systems, can appear in a variety of ways on radiographs, in the radiological department, and histologically. High-flow lesions with direct arteriovenous connections are known as arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). These lesions can cause soft tissue loss and deformity since they are difficult to diagnose early. This case report describes a 75-year-old female who presented with a severe bluish-purple swelling on her top lip. After conducting a thorough investigation, the patient's condition was quickly identified as AVM...

Demons-Meigs syndrome is a very rare entity. It combines a benign ovarian "fibroma-like" tumor with ascites and hydrothorax. The notion of benignancy is the key point. CA-125 levels are most of the time normal, but high levels can be observed in rare cases which makes it difficult to have a diagnostic. We present here the case of a 43-year-old female patient who presented with abdominopelvic pain. Imaging discovered a 30 cm large intraabdominal mass with ascites and bilateral pleural effusion. Surgical resection of the tumor was performed, and pathology identified an ovarian fibroma...

Salicylates are often used in clinical practice as antiplatelets as well as analgesics. Its overdose is not uncommon due to its easy availability over the counter. Mortality is high in severe cases when a lethal dose is consumed. Treatment of overdose is difficult due to the non-availability of an antidote. Hemodialysis is an underutilized treatment modality in such cases. We discuss here a case of a young female who presented to us 2.5 h after the consumption of a lethal dose of salicylate with symptoms of only tinnitus...

Pregnant people with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD) constitute a highly vulnerable population. PTSD and SUD confer risks to both the pregnant person and the fetus, including a host of physical and mental health consequences. When PTSD and SUD co-occur, potential negative impacts are amplified, and the symptoms of each may exacerbate and maintain the other. Pregnancy often increases engagement in the healthcare system, presenting a unique and critical opportunity to provide PTSD and SUD treatment to birthing people motivated to mitigate risks of losing custody of their children...

INTRODUCTION: Periocular sebaceous carcinoma (PSC) remains a common diagnostic pitfall both clinically and histomorphologically. PRAME (preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma) has been studied in the various neoplasms as proposed as diagnostic and therapeutic markers. PRAME is expressed in normal sebaceous units and in some sebaceous lesions; however, its utility in sebaceous carcinoma diagnosis has not yet been extensively investigated. We conducted a 13-year retrospective review of the patients diagnosed with PSC at the National Specialist Ophthalmic Pathology Service in Liverpool...
