A 7-year-old girl, coming from a rural area in Cameroon, presented to the emergency department with a 3-months history of abdominal pain. Her family also reported vomiting and minimal food intake for two weeks. Physical examination showed a palpable and mobile abdominal mass. An ultrasound showed a large intrabdominal multicystic lesion of about 10cm, close to the intestine and with no solid lesions in other organs. A laparotomy was scheduled and a mobile mass dependent on the jejunum was found. The mass caused an intestinal obstruction and was composed of several large cysts with whitish fluid...

Cystic neck masses in adolescents pose a diagnostic challenge as they be neoplastic or non-neoplastic, congenital, inflammatory, or infectious. Detailed history and examination, anatomical location of the lesion may help narrow down the differential diagnosis of such masses. Cervical thymic cysts contribute to less than 1% cystic lesions in the neck. We present one such case and our management strategy.

Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are one of the congenital malformations of the lymphatic system in the body. The patient usually presents with head and neck swelling, airway compression, and/or airway obstruction. The diagnosis of retropharyngeal LMs can be challenging due to their rare occurrence. We report a case of a five-month-old boy diagnosed with retropharyngeal LMs. He presented with a three-day history of fever, cough, and stridor and was initially treated for acute bronchiolitis. A lateral neck radiograph revealed prevertebral widening, suggesting retropharyngeal collection...

Cystic lymphangioma (CL) is a rare congenital deformity that almost exclusively affects children. Among the incidences, the majority occur in the head and neck area. Adults who develop these lesions likely develop them as a result of trauma. Here, we present the case of an adult female with a CL in the right calf region. Over time, it continued to grow to a noticeable size. Surgical resection was a good management strategy for the patient. We conducted a literature survey in light of scarce reports depicting CL in the limbic area...

PURPOSE: Sirolimus has emerged as a safe and effective treatment for complicated lymphatic malformations (LMs). We aim to prove the effectiveness and safety of sirolimus as a therapeutic option for patients with complicated LMs. METHODS: Fifty-eight patients with complicated LMs treated with sirolimus for at least 6 months at multicenter between July 2018 and January 2023 were enrolled. All patients were administered oral sirolimus starting at 0.8 mg/m2 every 12 hours, with target serum concentration levels of 8-15 ng/mL...

Cancers of unknown primary (CUPs) pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges because of their aggressive nature and elusive identification through conventional diagnostic means. This case report presents a unique finding in a 57-year-old female patient who, alongside her CUP, developed a cavernous mesenteric lymphangioma-a rare lymphatic malformation that is more commonly observed in pediatric populations. The interrelation between CUPs, chylous ascites, and lymphangiomas is explored, shedding light on this uncommon occurrence...

INTRODUCTION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Lymphangiomas are benign tumors that are typically found in the neck and armpit region but can also occur in other locations. The clinical presentation varies depending on their location and size, and surgical resection is the primary treatment option. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a child who presented with a painless and non-obstructing abdominal mass. The mass was diagnosed and underwent complete surgical resection. Subsequent tissue analysis confirmed that the cyst was a lymphangioma...

Intussusceptive angiogenesis (IA) and intussusceptive lymphangiogenesis (IL) play a key role in the growth and morphogenesis of vessels. However, there are very few studies in this regard in vessel tumors (VTs). Our objective is to assess the presence, characteristics, and possible mechanisms of the formation of intussusceptive structures in a broad spectrum of VTs. For this purpose, examples of benign and malignant blood and lymphatic VTs were studied via conventional procedures, semithin sections, and immunochemistry and immunofluorescence microscopy...

This case report documents the clinical journey of a 14-year-old female child experiencing bilateral swelling and pain in the mandibular region, suggestive of idiopathic masseter muscle hypertrophy. This condition, although relatively uncommon, can present itself either unilaterally or bilaterally. While cosmetic concerns, often denoted as a "square face," are commonly expressed by patients, additional symptoms like protrusion, bruxism, or trismus may also be present. The patient reported a gradual and asymptomatic bilateral bulging in the mandible angle region, with an explicit complaint of pain...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Cystic hygromas are congenital lymphangiomas that arise from a developmental anomaly in the lymphatic system. Typically detected in early childhood, their incidence in adolescents and at the chest wall or axillary area is rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We report two cases, a 14-year-old male child (Case I) and a 1-year-old male infant (Case II), who presented with swelling in unusual locations, the right axillary region and the right anterolateral chest wall respectively...

BACKGROUND: Cystic lymphangioma is a rare benign tumor that affects the lymphatic system. Mesenteric lymphangiomas in the small bowel are extremely uncommon. CASE SUMMARY: We present a 21-year-old female patient who complained of abdominal pain. The diagnosis of ovarian torsion was suspected after abdominopelvic unenhanced computed tomography and ultrasound revealed a large cyst in contact with the bladder, ovary, and uterus. The patient underwent emergency laparotomy performed by gynecologists, but it was discovered that the cystic tumor originated from the jejunum...

Adult-onset lymphatic malformations arising at the postcricoid, a subsite of the hypopharynx, are sporadic. Only one case has been previously reported. In this study, we presented a 36-year-old female presented with globus sensation, dysphagia, and upper airway obstruction, requiring a tracheostomy. A computed tomography scan identified a 5 cm × 4.5 cm × 3 cm multilocular hypodense lesion in the postcricoid. Due to its considerable size, complete resection with function preservation was crucial, and a standard microscopic direct laryngoscopy approach may result in inadequate exposure, while an open transcervical approach may affect functional outcomes and increase surgical complications...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The main types of scrotal vascular lesions are varicocele, hemangioma, lymphangioma and arteriovenous malformation (AVM). AVM consists of network between arteries and veins without capillaries. It is the rarest type especially when in scrotum. BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cystic lymphatic malformation (LM) is a rare congenital benign malformation in adults, and its location in the mesentery of the sigmoid colon is even rarer. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe a rare case of LM of the mesentery in a 49-year-old woman. The patient was inadvertently identified during a physical examination 1 month earlier. Transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the presence of an intrapelvic mass posterior to the uterus and right anterior to the sigmoid colon...

BACKGROUND: Chylothorax is an intractable postoperative complication of thoracic surgery. Preventing postoperative chylothorax following initial surgery is important. Most cases of chylothorax are caused by injury to the thoracic duct or its branches. However, rare cases might result from injury to the lymphatic vessels in the chest wall. Preoperative oral administration of dairy products is widely recognized as a useful method for identifying the sites of chylous leaks during surgery for chylothoraces...
