Nanocomposite of bismuth nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes in Nafion matrix was used as modifier for glassy carbon electrode in analysis of anti-inflamatory drug sulfasalazine. The nanocomposite surface exhibited exceptional synergy and remarkable enhancement effect to the voltammetric response of drug. The surface morphology and structure characterization of the modified electrodes was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The sensor exhibited excellent electroanalytical performance for drug determination in comparison with bismuth film electrode...

BACKGROUND: Since central neuraxial analgesia cannot provide adequate post operative pain relief when it is used alone in patients who had undergone Total Knee Replacement Surgery (TKR), an alternative analgesic method is usually advised. The alternatives include either systemic analgesics (opioids, Non Steroidal Anti Inflamatory Drugs, [NSAIDs], etc) or peripheral nerve blocks. When complete analgesia is aimed in such patients, combining the sciatic nerve blocks along with the Femoral Nerve Blocks (FNBs) will be beneficial...

BACKGROUND: Prickly pear cactus stem (nopal) has been used in folk medicine and a raw material since ancient times. Stems have been proved to possess components with valuable biological activities: anti inflamatory, antioxidant, antiulcerogenic, hypoglycemic, and so forth. Nowadays, people consume foods not only to cover the nutritional requirements, they also demand for healty, natural and convenient foods that show biological activity. This study evaluated the bio-functional effects of consuming tortillas or bars (filled with prickly pear fruit jam) supplemented or not with nopal dietary fiber...

Flavonoid components of propolis are biologically active substances with antioxidative, immunostimulative, immunomodulative, and anti-inflamatory properties. The aim of the study was to investigate their cytotoxic effect on different leukaemia cell lines. For this purpose we used five different flavonoids (quercetin, caffeic acid, chrysin, naringenin, and naringin) and five types of leukemia cell lines (MOLT, JURKAT, HL-60, RAJI and U937). Cells were cultured at 37 degrees C in the RPMI-1640 medium supplemented with 10% FCS in humified atmosphere with 5% of CO2...
