Bluetongue (BT), caused by bluetongue virus (BTV), is a vector-borne disease of small ruminants that has the potential to spread across international borders. Despite large populations of susceptible animals and borders with BTV endemic countries, little is known of the disease burden and prevalent serotypes in the province of Balochistan in Pakistan. We conducted a cross-sectional study to determine seroconversion and prevalent serotypes in selected districts of the province using a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)...

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the reliability and concurrent validity of commonly used physical performance tests using the OmniVR Virtual Rehabilitation System for healthy community-dwelling elders. METHOD: Participants (N = 40) were recruited by the authors and were screened for eligibility. The initial method of measurement was randomized to either virtual reality (VR) or clinically based measures (CM). Physical performance tests included the five times sit to stand, Timed Up and Go (TUG), Forward Functional Reach (FFR) and 30-s stand test...

Using impedance spectroscopy the electrical response of sensors with various porous Y-stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) microstructures was measured for gas concentrations containing 0-100 ppm NO with 10.5%O2 at temperatures ranging from 600-700 °C. The impedance response increased substantially as the sensor porosity increased from 46%-50%. Activation energies calculated based on data from the impedance measurements increased in magnitude (97.4-104.9 kJ/mol for 100 ppm NO) with respect to increasing YSZ porosity. Analysis of the oxygen partial pressure dependence of the sensors suggested that dissociative adsorption was the dominant rate limiting...

The interaction of charge-transfer (CT) complexes resulted from the reaction of N,N'-bis[2-hydroxyethyl]-1,4,6,8-naphthalenediimide (BHENDI) with some various acceptors like as substituted phenols in para position; 4-aminophenol (4AP), 4-methylphenol (4MP) and 4-nitrophenol (4NP) have been studied in methanol at room temperature. The reaction was studied using electronic (UV-vis), mid infrared, and (1)H NMR spectra and thermal measurements (TGA and DTG) as well as elemental analysis CHN. The chemical analysis data of the resulted CT-complexes, BHENDI-acceptors, reveal that the formation of a 1:2 CT complexes in all cases...

Sensitive and selective methodology is described for the simultaneous determination of thiols, disulfides and bis(alkylthio)selenides in mixtures formed by reaction of selenious acid with thiols. The methods are based on separation of the various compounds by reversed-phase ion pairing chromatography followed by detection with an electrochemical detector equipped with dual mercury/gold amalgam electrodes in series in the eluent stream. Thiols are detected directly at the downstream electrode. Bis(alkylthio)selenides and disulfides are detected indirectly by first reducing them at the upstream electrode followed by detection of the reduction products at the downstream electrode...

Search Tips

Use Boolean operators: AND/OR

diabetic AND foot
diabetes OR diabetic

Exclude a word using the 'minus' sign

Virchow -triad

Use Parentheses

water AND (cup OR glass)

Add an asterisk (*) at end of a word to include word stems

Neuro* will search for Neurology, Neuroscientist, Neurological, and so on

Use quotes to search for an exact phrase

"primary prevention of cancer"
(heart or cardiac or cardio*) AND arrest -"American Heart Association"
