BACKGROUND: There is a dearth of studies to assess the effectiveness of cryotherapy as a possible adjuvant in anesthesia. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the impact of pretreatment intraoral ice packs, application of Endo-ice, and a combination of Endo-ice and intrapulpal ice sticks use on the effectiveness of pulpal anesthesia as an adjunct in the management of pain and dental anxiety in mandibular second molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) against traditional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) technique...

PURPOSE: Apically extruded debris, canal transportation and shaping ability were compared between contracted endodontic cavities (CECs) and traditional endodontic cavities (TECs) after instrumentation with XP-endo Shaper (XPS), ProTaper Gold (PTG), ProTaper for hand-use (HPT) and Hero Shaper. METHODS: The CECs or TECs groups were sub-divided into 24 groups according to root canal morphology and nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) instruments. The weight of apically extruded debris was calculated using the Myers and Montgomery model...

The present study aimed to evaluate bacterial viability after the use of different disinfection protocols in root canals infected with a multispecies biofilm (MB) formed in situ. Palatal roots with a single canal were obtained from extracted maxillary molars and sterilized before being inserted into the mouth. The roots were contaminated with a MB in an intraoral appliance worn by ten volunteers. All volunteers wore six roots simultaneously in two intraoral devices for 21 days. One root from each volunteer was assigned to each group (n=10): PUI - passive ultrasonic irrigation; EC - Easy Clean; XPF - XP-endo Finisher; aPDT - antimicrobial photodynamic therapy; CI - conventional irrigation; and NC - negative control...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the success rate of retrieving separated instrument, the root canal volume changes using cone-beam computed tomography and the retrieval time using Ruddle's technique, Terauchi file retrieval kit (TFRK) and Endo Rescue kit. METHODS: Sixty human mandibular first molars were selected, and a 4-mm portion of #25/.04 rotary files were separated in the middle third of moderately curved mesio-buccal canals. Teeth were randomly assigned into three groups (n=20): R group, in which separated files were retrieved according to Ruddle's technique; T group, in which separated files were retrieved using TFRK and E group, in which separated files were retrieved using Endo Rescue kit...

The interrelationship between periodontium and pulp makes the treatment of combined endo-periodontal lesions (EPL) more challenging. It involves successful elimination of both periodontal and endodontic lesion. The current case report represents the efficacy of regenerative potential of enamel matrix derivates (Emdogain®) in endo-periodontal lesion after successful endodontic treatment. A 39-year-old woman presented with EPL on a left first mandibular molar. After the initial 3 months of healing, the clinical examination showed that the furcation involvement still prevailed...

The interactions of two star polymers based on poly (2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) with different types of nucleic acids are investigated. The star polymers differ only in their functionality to bear protonable amino or permanently charged quaternary ammonium groups, while DNAs of different molar masses, lengths and topologies are used. The main physicochemical parameters of the resulting polyplexes are determined. The influence of the polymer' functionality and length and topology of the DNA on the structure and properties of the polyelectrolyte complexes is established...

OBJECTIVES: Even if it seems to be an important anatomical parameter for tissue regeneration, few studies in literature evaluate the "mean measure" of root divergence. Most of them are linear measurements, which hardly describe the dental furcation conformation in its entirety. It is left to the subjectivity of the operator deciding whether a furcation is convergent or divergent. The goal of this study is to create a visual evaluation method using specific measurements applied on endo-oral X-rays to overcome these problems, giving a conformation of the entire interradicular space and its divergence...

Amino acid racemization of dentin (AAR) is among the most precise methods for age estimation in unidentified adult cadavers. Although vital teeth are generally used for this technique, cases often have endodontically treated (Endo) teeth only. Therefore, the aim of this preliminary pilot study was to determine the applicability of Endo teeth by comparing AAR rates between vital and Endo teeth. Thirty-six dentin samples from vital teeth and 18 dentin samples from Endo teeth were analyzed, including the maxillary first premolar, maxillary second molar, and mandibular second premolar...
